Summary: The Transportation Supervisor is responsible for supervising the day to day transportation operations and courier workforce. This role will manage all aspects of transportation discipline including; safety, route structures, development, personnel scheduling, and workload assignments. Responsible for training, recruiting, counseling, coaching, disciplinary action and writing reviews. Process and approve payroll, time off requests and exceptions. Communicates effectively with front line regarding change procedures, initiatives and program roll outs. Work closely with outsourced vendors to maintain fleet in prescribed manner. Establish and manage proper workflow to ensure daily, weekly and monthly DOT, IFTA, IRP reporting and requirements are met.


To perform this job successfully, the individual must be able to complete the following essential duties and responsibilities:


  • Build, schedule, and consolidate product deliveries into truck loads through use of strategic routing software.
  • Monitor all transportation activities to ensure FMCSA and DOT compliance for both drives and vehicles (Hours of Service, GVWR, DQ Files, Medical & License Expirations, etc.).
  • Provides feedback on performance, safety, and other opportunities to drivers in a manner that achieves success while achieving company goals.
  • Arrange and schedule necessary preventive maintenance and repairs for equipment and delivery vehicles based on FMCSA compliance and manufacturer determined maintenance needs.
  • Conduct internal investigations and meetings to determine root causes of any transportation accidents and to improve safety procedures.
  • Maintains and creates a safety driven culture for all MSI vehicles and drivers.
  • Collects, systematically uploads, and stores all necessary documentation for outbound freight, driver compliance and vehicle maintenance records (Inspections, Citations, registration, POD’s, Insurance, etc.) in accordance with DOT or Company guidelines.
  • Manages the operational aspects of ongoing projects and serves as liaison between project management and planning, project team, and line management.
  • Plans, organizes and manages the work of subordinate staff to ensure that the work is accomplished in a manner consistent with organizational requirements.
  • Partners with warehouse personnel, sales personnel and other internal or external supply chain partners to achieve optimal performance.
  • Ensure Branch distribution needs are being met through requests from appropriate personnel.
  • Contact carrier representative to make arrangements and to issue instruction for loading products.


Additionally the candidate must meet the following Education and/or Experience requirements:


  • High School Education required College Education preferred
  • 1+ years utilizing routing software- (Descartes Routing Software-Plus)
  • 1+ years utilizing or interacting with a form of Warehouse Management Software (WMS)
  • 1+ years training and coaching drivers on safety or productivity performance (Lytx Drive Cam Software-Plus)
  • 1+ years implementing or creating programs to improve on efficiency metrics, safety metrics, or company goal objectives
  • Change management and conflict resolution leadership styles
  • Experience analyzing and creating data for analysis and process improvement
  • 1-2 years of Warehouse experience
  • 1-2 years of Dispatch and/or Fleet experience
  • Problem solving skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to use a computer and tablet
  • Proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Word
  • Excellent oral and written English language communication skills
  • Bilingual (Spanish) a plus
