We are seeking a talented Tool Designer to join our team in Burnsville, MN, for a long-term contract position. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in fixture design, 3D CAD modeling, and prototyping. This role requires a blend of technical skills in mechanical design and the ability to collaborate effectively with CNC machine operators and other technical staff.
Key Responsibilities
Fixture Design: Develop and refine mechanical fixture designs, ensuring compliance with industry standards and project requirements.
3D CAD Modeling: Create and modify complex 3D CAD models using Creo. Generate detailed engineering drawings for manufacturing.
Prototyping: Utilize 3D printing techniques to prototype and validate designs, with a strong understanding of plastic design principles and 3D printing guidelines.
Technical Liaison: Interpret engineering drawings and collaborate closely with CNC machine operators to resolve design-related technical issues.
Programming: Learn and apply basic programming for laser marker machines, including feeding and executing simple instructions.
VBA Scripting: Utilize VBA scripting for automation and customization tasks within design software.
Tool Experience: Extensive hands-on experience with Creo, ensuring efficient and accurate design processes.
Skills Required
Mechanical Fixture Design: Expertise in designing and developing fixtures for various mechanical applications.
3D Prototyping: Proficient in using 3D printing technology for prototyping and design validation.
Fabrication: Knowledge of fabrication processes and materials, particularly plastics.
3D CAD Proficiency: Advanced skills in 3D CAD modeling, specifically with Creo.
Engineering Drawing Interpretation: Strong ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings.
Technical Communication: Effective communication skills for interacting with technical staff and resolving design issues.
Basic Programming Skills: Familiarity with programming concepts, particularly in scripting for design automation.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering is required.
Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience in tool and fixture design, with a proven track record in 3D CAD modeling and prototyping.
Technical Proficiency: Demonstrated expertise in Creo and a solid understanding of 3D printing technologies and materials.
