Department Function/Job Overview

Responsible for safely transporting patients to and from therapy sessions. Responsible for assisting patients with ADL activities prior to and following sessions in the pool. Responsible for monitoring equipment and supplies. Work will be performed in an ethical and legal manner following organizational policies, processes, protocols and procedures. Responsible for quality service delivery and internal/external customer relations for Madonna as a whole, including upholding the mission and values for the department and facility.

Essential Functions

(INFORMATION)

  • Support department by faxing, filing and copying documents in a timely manner.
  • Files patient records accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Coordinates and maintains an organized filing system.
  • Copies patient and billing documents as designated.
  • Completes and records pool chemical testing/pH level and other data tracking as requested by supervisor.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies.
  • Inspect and maintain safety check list. (PEOPLE)
  • Transports patients safely to and from therapy sessions.
  • Assists patients with toileting, showering and dressing prior to and following therapy sessions.
  • May assist therapists, therapist assistants, students and other treating personnel in patient treatment and/or evaluation, in and out of the water.
  • May assist with patient group sessions as directed by supervisory staff.
  • Answers the telephone and relays messages.
  • Communicates effectively with patients, families, staff, outside contacts/sources.
  • Supervises volunteers.
  • Follows instruction from supervisor to perform other functions as assigned in order to achieve the goals within the department.
  • Must perceive customer relations as a primary focus, and continually strive to satisfy the needs of every customer in all areas of the work force.
  • In selected cases, performs patient treatment under the direction of supervising staff.
  • Participates and assists in department and facility committees and/or task forces. (THINGS)
  • Monitors and cleans department equipment on a daily basis to facilitate safety or operations.
  • Operates pool equipment including lift and rescue equipment.
  • Operates various types of wheelchairs and makes minor adjustments and repairs.
  • Sets up equipment and supplies needed for treatment and cleans up during and following treatment sessions.
  • Maintains and ensures a safe environment for the department. Handles and operates all necessary equipment and performs required duties according to established safety standards to maintain compliance with regulations and prevent injury. Adhere to and participates with infection prevention guidelines.
  • Operates aquatic office equipment.
  • Uses sphygmomanometer to accurately measure blood pressure. PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS Medium to heavy work requiring constant standing and walking, occasional lifting. Able to perform transfers with assistance for patients of various sizes whose body weight may be up to 250 pounds. Infrequently, body weight may exceed 250 pounds. Constant pushing of wheelchairs for up to 300 pounds. Requires constant handling of wheelchairs with patients. Ordinary hearing and speaking skills. Constant near visual acuity and depth perception for safe transportation of patients. Inside work. May be exposed to biohazardous materials. May be exposed to patients who are in an agitated or aggressive state. May be prolonged exposure to high temperature and humid conditions and to disinfecting chemicals used in the pool.

QUALIFICATIONS (Education/training And/or Experience)

High school level of knowledge with basic reading, writing and communication skills. CNA training preferred. If not CNA trained, will consider physical therapy or occupational therapy aide with 1 year experience in lieu of CNA training. Aquatic experience desired. CPR for Health Care Provider/CPR for Professional Rescuer required at time of hire or within 30 days from date of hire. Incumbent must be 18 years of age or older.
