Teacher - 5th Grade ~ 2 Positions Available

Position Description

The selected candidate will be responsible for providing an educational atmosphere where students have the opportunity to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and psychological growth. This person will also be responsible for organizing and implementing an instructional program that will result in students achieving academic success in accordance with GPPSS policies, goals and objectives.

Primary Qualifications

  • Valid Michigan Elementary Teaching Certificate
  • K-5 ALL SUBJECTS endorsement, AND Highly Qualified status, required
  • Significant experience and/or coursework in related fields
  • Related academic endorsements preferred

Position Responsibilities

  • Ability to implement and instruct established Grosse Pointe Curriculum
  • Includes culturally diverse themes in lessons and instruction, including historical or other information as to cultures having significant impact on the world, nation or community.
  • Implements instructional activities that contribute to a climate where students are actively engaged in meaningful learning experiences.
  • Identifies, selects, and modifies instructional resources to meet the needs of the students with varying backgrounds, learning styles, and special needs.
  • Assists in assessing changing curricular needs and offers plans for improvement.
  • Maintains effective and efficient record keeping procedures.
  • Provides a positive environment in which students are encouraged to be actively engaged in the learning process.
  • Communicates effectively, both orally and in writing, with students, parents, and other professionals on a regular basis.
  • Collaborates with peers to enhance the instructional environment.
  • Models professional and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, peers, and community.
  • Ensures that student growth and achievement is continuous and appropriate for age group, subject area, and/or program classification.
  • Establishes and maintains cooperative working relationships with students, parents, and schools.
  • Assumes responsibility for meeting his/her course and school-wide student performance goals.
  • Demonstrates gains in student performance.
  • Meets professional obligations through efficient work habits such as: meeting deadlines, honoring schedules, coordinating.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by their supervisor.

  • Prolonged periods standing and walking throughout school and classroom.
  • Must be able to lift up to 45 pounds at a time.
  • Must be able to assist students who have physical difficulties.
  • Occasional bending, kneeling, sitting, standing, and climbing stairs.
  • Prolonged periods sitting and working on the computer to complete necessary paperwork.

Compensation

Salary is based on the GPEA CBA, which may or may not recognize previous professional teaching experience. The range for this position is between $41,616-$51,291. GPEA Members are also eligible for a comprehensive and competitive benefits package including health/dental/vision/life and long-term disability insurance. Membership in the Michigan Public Schools Employee Retirement System www.michigan.gov/ors.
