Wilberforce University seeks a System Administrator/IT Manager to join our team. The successful candidate will work closely with the Chief Information Officer (CIO) and take responsibility for overseeing and maintaining the university’s IT infrastructure. System Administrator/IT Manager who will lead a team of IT professionals with various skill sets to help improve and maintain essential IT operations, including operating systems, security tools, applications, servers, email systems, laptops, desktops, software, and hardware. Maintain a reliable, secure, and efficient data communications network. The ideal candidate will be able to deploy, configure, maintain, and monitor all active network equipment and servers (VMware) to ensure smooth operation.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Oversees the daily operations of the IT technical area and coordinates IT resources
Manages vendor relationships and vendor contracts related to hardware, software, and IT services
IT point person to internal and external partners to communicate project status, activities, and achievements
Provides support and technical assistance, investigates user problems, identifies causes, determines solutions, tests, and implements solutions for end-users on computer-related matters
Configure and maintain application Windows/Red Hat Enterprise servers, including security patching, software and licensing, group policy administration, Active Directory maintenance, and granular file share management.
Manage local Active Directory group, user, and computer objects; the AD Schema
Manage Microsoft 365 solutions, including identifying, researching, recommending, and implementing Microsoft 365 solutions and applications such as Teams, Office, Outlook, PowerApps, OneDrive, Bookings, Power BI, and SharePoint
Possess the ability to work with Windows, Power Automate, Python, SQL, Perl scripting, PowerShell with Azure, Office 365 maintenance/troubleshooting
Install and integrate new Windows/Red Hat server hardware and applications and assist in network design and implementation
New VM / Physical Server Implementations/maintenance with VMware ESXi cluster
Troubleshooting ESX issues related to storage, network, and performance issues
Maintain servers and associated hardware, applications, services, and settings
Evaluate and recommend security improvements, system upgrades, and server system administration
Maintain detailed documentation and inventory
Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
This position requires an emergency response and weekend/after-hours duty as needed
Required Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
Fundamental knowledge of networking concepts
Hands-on technical troubleshooting capabilities and hands-on experience in environment
Ability to work independently under minimal supervision
Knowledge of computing infrastructures
Familiarity with server management and monitoring tools
Exceptional critical thinking and problem-solving ability
Proficiency with scripting languages
Strong interpersonal skills to assist non-technical individuals with complex technical issues
Excellent knowledge of best practices around management, control, and monitoring of server infrastructure
Enable faster and more intelligent business processes and implement analytics for meaningful insights
Experience with firewalls, Internet VPNs, remote implementation, troubleshooting, and problem resolution is desired
Ability to set up and configure server hardware
Familiarity with backup and recovery software and methodologies
Great at organizing, prioritizing, and multitasking
Minimum Qualifications
Have a minimum of two years of associate degree in a related technical field.
Having 3-5 years of experience in a related technical role is required.
Juniper, Cisco, CWNA, or BCNE training, CISSP, CCNA, or CCNP certification a plus
