SUMMARY: The SE Curriculum Coordinator is an educational professional and content expert whose job is to help the district in developing a better district wide curriculum. Their typical job duties include observing instructional practices, training teachers and staff, ordering new instructional materials, facilitating the design and implementation of a district wide, content specific scope and sequence, and ensuring the district curriculum meets all state guidelines. Other responsibilities involve meeting with school administrators and assessing students’ grades with the goal of helping the school raise their overall test scores. The SE Curriculum Coordinator specializes in Special Education instruction, various academic subject areas and facilitates vertical planning across grade levels K-12. Coordinators also focus on different ways to improve learning opportunities for students and educators alike. Improvements are made through research, development, and testing of new curricula and teaching methods, selecting appropriate resources, and learning materials for use in the virtual classroom, advising teachers and administrators on education regulations, and suggesting innovative ideas that will enhance teaching and learning in a virtual environment. This position supervises SE Instructional Coaches and reports directly to the SE Instructional Assistant Director.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The below statements are intended to describe the general nature and scope of work being performed by this position.   • Demonstrate knowledge of Georgia Standards of Excellence (GSE) and assists teachers and grade level teams with the implementation of the GSE
  • Develop district wide curriculum maps and scope and sequence documents for identified content area
  • Create interim assessments (district benchmarks) to evaluate student understanding of state standards
  • Facilitate implementation of scope and sequence as well as the design of exemplar lesson plans
  • Oversee the purchase of specific curriculum platform resources through identification of resource and recommendation for purchase
  • Identify innovative strategies to meet the curricular demands of the program
  • Meet with grade band principals and assistant principals to collect and review data to inform curriculum and instructional needs across K-12
  • Actively participate in district, school, and department meetings
  • Manage course development, which consists of instructional plans, learning objectives, lesson plans, and activities to meet specific state standards
  • Stay current on most recent subject area strategies, trends, initiatives, and changes in state standards from year to year
  • Manage and evaluate SE Instructional Coaches in state and school evaluation programs
  • Develop and deliver professional development identified as needs from data
  • Conduct routine team meetings with instructional facilitator(s) to ensure development of facilitator ing practices and uniform departmental understanding and implementation
  • Support instructional facilitators with the creation and utilization of curriculum, instruction, and assessment documents to improve teaching and learning
  • Assist with analyzing local, state, and national assessment data as it relates to individual student and school performance, as well as district improvement, focused on at-risk students
  • Collects, maintains, analyzes, and presents on-going data for reporting to various stakeholders and for school board reports
  • Meets with leads, administration, collaborating teachers, students and parents/Learning Coaches to discuss district goals and instructional plans
  • Design and facilitate focus group sessions to garner stakeholder feedback on interim assessments and other processes
  • Support and monitor instructional use of platforms (Canvas, Jigsaw, Illuminate, and curriculum/supplemental platforms); collaborate with grade band principal and assistant principals related to findings and areas in need of support
  • Create lesson plan review and classroom observation schedules to be utilized by instructional facilitator es
  • Plan and facilitate focus walks that provide calibration in lesson plan feedback and classroom observation feedback
  • Collaborate with instructional facilitator es to ensure effective implementation of data action plans, provide timely feedback, and strategize for necessary support
  • Write monthly principals’ reports to provide narrative to principals regarding lesson plan and classroom observation feedback
  • Support the creation of monthly newsletters sent to teachers regarding strategies and research-based resources specific to the content and needs
  • Attend cultural awareness events that ensure culturally responsive teaching and supervising the integration of this in the classrooms
  • Support local education agency (LEA) by attend meetings and completing required expectations
  • Support office hours specifically for each grade band during common planning
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment Director, K-12 Curriculum & Instruction Assistant Director, and/or Superintendent

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Directly supervises five - nine SE instructional coaches and provides evaluative feedback, including documentation within the TKES/LKES platform. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Minimum Required Qualifications

  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education or related academic field; AND
    • Five (5) years of successful special education teaching experience OR
    • Equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Certificates/Licensure:
    • GA PSC Educational Certificate
    • At least one P-12 Special Education Certification in one or more Content Area
    • SRT4 Certification in Special Education General and/or Adapted Certification Consultative (P-12)
    • TKES/LKES credentialed
    • Clear Fingerprint/Background Check Required
  • Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
    • Must have professional knowledge and proven use of effective teaching strategies and professional knowledge of curriculum-based assessments
    • Strong desire to work with at-risk students and developing teachers
    • Ability to communicate with adults and student learners at all ability levels
    • High technological skill level required
    • Demonstrated ability to work with personal and confidential information
    • Must be able to successfully manage multiple tasks, projects, and responsibilities
    • Ability to apply critical thinking skills in rendering solutions to various issues
    • Must be able to collaborate effectively with District and school personnel, the general public, and work with diverse groups of people
    • Excellent organizational skills
    • Excellent communication skills both orally and in writing
Desired Qualifications

  • Advanced Degree in Special Education, Education, or related field of study
  • Leadership or coaching experience or similar certification preferred
  • Advanced Google Sheets/Microsoft Excel knowledge and skills
  • Proficient/Advanced data analysis skills
  • Three (3) years of experience working in a similar capacity
  • Proficient/Advanced experience with Infinite Campus or other SIS systems
  • Experience with Zoom conferencing tool, and Google Suite
  • Three (3) years virtual educational environment experience and/or previous experience as an online educator

  • This is primarily a Monday through Friday, 8am to 4pm, 5 days/week, home-based position that may require traveling up to 25% of the time.
  • During critical periods, additional in-office days may be required. The noise level in the office is usually moderate (computers, printers, light foot traffic)
  • Maintain a professional home office without distraction during 8-4 workday when working from home
  • Consistent access to reliable high-speed internet
  • Valid driver’s license and availability of private transportation
  • In-person attendance at professional development, training, conferences, job fairs, meetings, school events, marketing events, and testing sites will be required several times per year.
  • Light lifting required.
