About The Role

As a (Senior) Marine Underwriter you will play an instrumental role shaping our Marine & Energy underwriting portfolio and will be a key contributor in driving our strategy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Underwrite Marine & Energy treaty reinsurance business for the various Ocean Marine classes including Cargo, Hull, Liability, Offshore Energy and Recreational Marine with a focus on United States and Canadian markets.
  • Work closely with ceding companies and brokers on reinsurance programs, understand what drives buying decisions and tailor reinsurance programs.
  • Perform technical and actuarial assessment for costing/pricing treaty reinsurance, contract wording review, overall deal life-cycle management.
  • Maintain and develop close, trust based relationships with dedicated clients, marine executives, and brokers.
  • Promote Swiss Re Global Marine activities through external networks, social media, interviews, market events and conferences.

Senior Marine Underwriter

Essentials:

  • In-depth knowledge of Marine and Energy underwriting with minimum 7+ years of marine insurance experience
  • Strong sales and negotiation skills with a client focus
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills
  • Travel in the US – up to 20%

Nice-to-Haves:

  • Maritime degree preferred
  • Additional language skills to English advantageous

Marine Underwriter

Essentials:

  • At least 3 years P&C insurance experience
  • Interest in sales and negotiation skills
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills
  • Willingness to travel within US, occasionally

For Armonk, NY, and New York, NY, the estimated base salary range for this position is $112,000 to $246,000. The specific salary offered for this, or any given role will take into account a number of factors including but not limited to job location, scope of role, qualifications, complexity/specialization/scarcity of talent, experience, education, and employer budget. At Swiss Re, we take a "total compensation approach" when making compensation decisions. This means that we consider all components of compensation in their totality (such as base pay, short-and long-term incentives, and benefits offered), in setting individual compensation.
