Summary

The Special Education Supervisor is responsible for managing and supervising the programs within the Teacher Department of The Vista School, in conjunction with other School and EIBS Directors and Supervisors (Director of Related Services, Director of Special Education, Behavior Supports Supervisor, etc.). The position is also responsible for ensuring high quality educational services meet fiscal objectives, client performance objectives, and staff high performing workplace culture, and ensuring regulatory processes meet individual needs.

Essential Functions

  • Maintains responsibility for Teacher Department outcomes, staffing, professional development, project planning, incident management, and quality management
  • Sets performance targets, interprets key success indicators to monitor program trends, analyzes and reduces the frequency of incidents and risks, and continually implements quality improvement controls
  • Achieves financial objectives by preparing teacher department annual budget, monitoring and scheduling those expenses, analyzing variances, and initiating the necessary corrective action
  • Develops performance metrics, measures staff performance using appropriate tools and rubrics, and conducts assigned performance reviews as scheduled
  • Identifies, addresses, and manages employee performance discrepancies, disciplinary issues, and training deficiencies for department members
  • Implements performance management practices (including training, development, etc.) to result in high performing employees and teams
  • Represents the organization at both internal and interagency meetings, maintains positive stakeholder relationships, including parents and school districts
  • Collaborates and responds to staff by seeking input, providing guidance, and responding to concerns surrounding special education, leadership within the classroom and classroom management, procedures, and best practices.
  • Leads needs assessments to diagnose problems, establishes educational goals of assigned area and helps connect teachers to appropriate resources to aid them in their problem-solving efforts.
  • Develops strong partnerships with special education teachers and classroom staff and the Training Department team members to ensure the development and delivery of relevant and effective training within their assignment
  • Provides leadership and support for other teachers and classroom staff in working within their assigned environment
  • Mentors and provides support for the Special Education Teacher in conjunction with the Director of Special Education and Executive Director of Educational Services
  • Designs and develops training programs, with assistance from the Training and the Quality department team members, as needed, in accordance with identified training needs and regulatory requirements specific to learning environment
  • Actively monitors content for alignment and modifies as needed, keeping teachers and classroom staff in the loop of research and best practices.
  • Delivers training content, monitors effectiveness across various levels and adjusts as data indicates
  • Reports the results of training the Director of Special Education and Executive Director of Educational Services and provides a synthesis of these results to teachers and classroom staff.
  • Tracks, monitors, and reports on employee training records, including, but not limited to remediation needs, annual required trainings, induction-related training, and on-going training in collaboration with the Director of Special Education
  • Completes other duties as assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

This position supervises the Special Education Teacher position.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The following positions or frequent movements are typical of the job: sitting, walking, standing, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, stooping, and crawling, often for extended periods of the workday. Assignment may require the ability to physically move students during possible physical interventions in order to maintain a safe learning environment.

The position requires that an individual be able to learn new tasks quickly and effectively. Job requirements may change frequently. The ability to understand and carry out detailed, involved, instructions is mandatory. The incumbent must be able to travel to multiple locations as needed, when needed to conduct organizational business. Subject to inside environmental conditions.

EXPECTED SCHEDULE

This is a minimum full time 40 hour per week position. Days and hours of the workweek are Monday through Friday as agreed upon by management and the EIBS Calendar. The ability to be reached during off-hours, when necessary, is expected.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Special Education required
  • Active PA Instructional II Certification required
  • Valid Administrative Special Education Supervisory Certificate from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania required
  • Minimum 3 years teaching experience in public or private educational institution required
  • Successful completion of Crisis Intervention Curriculum is required
  • Current First Aid and CPR Certification required
  • Successful completion of all pre-employment requirements

Knowledge And Skills

  • Knowledge and experience with special education school law desired
  • Ability to work efficiently with a service-oriented attitude with frequent interruptions
  • Demonstrates strong leadership abilities and organizational skills
  • Effectively manages multiple priorities, projects, and deadlines
  • Problem solve in a positive manner to analyze issues and create action plans
  • Demonstrates flexibility, receptiveness to change, tactfulness, patience, and courtesy
