Summary/Objective

The Shipping Manager will manage all shipping and transportation aspects at our manufacturing facility. This role involves direct oversight of personnel, compliance with all company and federal regulations, and maintaining a culture of safety and efficiency.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Operational Management: Manage the on-time delivery process, ensuring production lines meet customer and company standards for quality and timeliness. Ability to manage and understand labor and supply budgets.
  • Team Leadership: Lead, train, and supervise transportation staff, including drivers and administrative personnel, to achieve the company’s goals.
  • Compliance and Safety: Adhere to safety standards and regulations (OSHA, DOT), including handling of DOT recordable accidents and immediate response requirements.
  • Fleet and Equipment Management: Oversee fleet maintenance and understand equipment needs to ensure all vehicles are safe, reliable, and ready for operational demands.
  • Shipping and Packaging: Manage and optimize shipping processes, understand packaging requirements including weights and dimensions, and ensure compliance with shipping regulations.
  • Communication and Coordination: Promptly handle customer requests, effectively communicate across the organization, and provide regular feedback and coaching to team members.

Working Conditions

  • This is a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Prioritizing and adapting to changes is crucial, with a strong emphasis on safety.
  • Working indoors, office environment & shipyard outdoors
  • May sit for several hours at a time.
  • Prolonged exposure to computer screens.
  • Repetitive use of hands to operate computers, printers, and copiers.

Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum 2 years of management experience and 5 years in production or manufacturing.
  • Education: High school diploma required; higher education in supply chain, transportation, or related fields preferred.

Essential Functions

  • Comprehensive understanding of the driver vetting and hiring process.
  • Experienced in handling DOT recordable accidents and emergency situations.
  • Familiar with equipment needs specific to shipping and transportation.
  • General knowledge of packaging standards including weights and dimensions.
  • Understanding of various shipment types: third party, LTL, small package, hazmat etc.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and experienced with D365.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has supervisory responsibilities for transportation staff, including drivers, warehouse team members, and administrative personnel

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the Team Member is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing. The Team Member may have to lift and/or move items over 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Position Type/Expected Hours Of Work

This is a full-time salary position, and hours/days of work are decided by production schedules and your reporting manager.

Travel

Travel will be minimal and would be primarily local during the business day.

Preferred Education And Experience

  • Specific experience in supply chain or transportation management.
  • Proven track record of managing large teams in a manufacturing environment.
  • CDL-A, Forklift Certification

Work Authorization/Security Clearance

Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
