Senior Major Gifts Officer

Position Summary

Reporting to the Vice President of Development, and in the context of a $100MM Comprehensive Campaign, the Senior Major Gifts Officer will manage a portfolio of 150 donors, prospects and suspects. This individual will personally identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit, close and steward gifts and pledges of $50,000 or more toward both an individual goal to be determined, and an annual goal departmental goal of $20MM in support of Habitat Collier’s mission.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Within the context of a Comprehensive Campaign, responsible for leading the process of identifying, qualifying, cultivating, soliciting, closing and stewarding major and planned gifts to ensure that fundraising goals are met.
  • Develop a tiered system of major gift prospects and facilitate the movement of those prospects through the various stages of giving based on the Moves Management model.
  • Actively participate in regular prospect management (pipeline) /strategy meetings with Habitat Collier leadership.
  • Proactively enter timely prospect action reports in Raiser’s Edge documenting contacts, solicitations, meetings and notes.
  • Assist the team in planning and executing campaign and major donor events and attend key Habitat Collier events.
  • Discover and assess new prospects and develop systems to streamline the major donor prospect identification process.
  • Brainstorm and implement experiential and creative practices for the stewardship of donor relationships, ensuring donors feel connected, informed, and have clear insight into the impact of their gifts/commitments.
  • Manage information flow between donors and prospects, program staff and Leadership.
  • Coordinate virtual and in-person meetings to cultivate donor and prospect relationships.
  • Prepare written materials such as proposals, solicitations, and reports.
  • Using dashboards, provide bi-weekly updates on major gift activities
  • Develop and maintain positive and fruitful relationships with senior leadership, staff, Board of Directors and all donors, including high-profile constituents.
  • In conjunction with other development staff, work with communications department on email content and printed materials strategy for major donors.
  • Record and report key metrics.
  • Work collaboratively with the development operations team to facilitate reporting, research, and analysis
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.


Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • A bachelor’s degree is required
  • 5 – 7 years of successful fundraising experience and a quantifiable track record of closing major gifts.
  • A general level of comfort when dealing with high net worth individuals, and an ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality when dealing with significant benefactors; the importance of these qualities cannot be overstated.
  • Proven ability to work closely with colleagues, interest in communicating with diverse groups of people and translating the work into creative, compelling, accessible terms.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, both written and verbal, as well as a high level of sophistication and maturity in social and professional settings
  • High-level of curiosity and analytical thinking and complex problem-solving skills.
  • Fluency in the use or oversight of Raiser’s Edge or similar database.
  • Experience creating professional presentations, reports, and dashboards
  • Proven experience creating and maintaining new programs.
  • Extensive knowledge of fundraising strategies and principles.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and as part of a team required.
  • A clear understanding of the mission, values, and traditions of Habitat Collier.
  • The position requires that the majority of the MGO’s time be spent off-site visiting prospects.
  • Position is located full time in Naples, FL and is onsite (not remote).



SALARY: $90,000 – $110,000 per year, depending on experience
