Senior Development Manager

The Senior Development Manager understands the needs of our clients and guides them through the most effective process to deliver the desired results. This role emerges from our unique opportunity to support our clients as true product design consultants. Our responsibility is to chart the optimal development path within a solution space, not just to refine or execute hardware creation. This role will deliver high-level strategy while fostering strong client relationships, enabling our teams to explore early R&D pathways and swiftly pivot based on research, data, and testing. The ideal candidate will be able to successfully clarify complex and ambiguous client project proposals by defining direction for our technical teams, serving as the voice of client interests for our internal teams.

Key Responsibilities:

• Cultivate strong relationships with clients to deeply understand their needs and motivations.
• Formulate long-term project timelines for highly ambiguous R&D initiatives.
• Lead the planning and execution of product development strategies through to the handoff to our internal production transition team.
• Collaborate closely with technical leads and the entire internal team to provide clients with regular updates and major milestone presentations.
• Foster innovation by reallocating problems across functional groups based on resource availability and introducing unique solutions to overcome blockers.
• Oversee and manage contractor resources on projects to ensure adherence to timelines and work scope.
• Proactively identify and address changes in scope and any arising issues or blockers.
• Ensure transparency by providing internal and external teams with up-to-date status reports on upcoming milestones.
• Craft proposals and statements of work to secure program funding.
• Promote a culture of continuous improvement and learning within the development team and the broader organization.
• Guarantee that all deliverables adhere to the highest quality standards and meet client expectations.
• Advocate for user-centered design principles and testing throughout the development process.
• Devise and implement strategies to expedite project timelines while maintaining quality standards.
• Optimize budget allocation by tracking, analyzing, and adapting resources and expenses to accelerate schedules while ensuring appropriate project rigor.
• Mentoring and coaching of Development team members
• Other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in a technical field
• 8+ years experience in a technical project management role (client facing)
• Experience in leadership of software/mechanical/design research projects
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
• Ability to adapt to a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
