The Senior Category Manager spearheads the leadership, definition, development, and execution of intricate sourcing programs targeting key spend categories.
The primary aim is to achieve cost savings and align with the strategic objectives crucial to business unit customers, the supply chain, and the enterprise at large.
This pivotal role entails close collaboration with internal stakeholders, suppliers, and supply chain teams to deliver value-added outcomes while securing the best evaluated total cost of ownership, ensuring quality, and adhering to schedule compliance.
Management of an annual managed-spend exceeding $100M across respective categories is integral to the role, along with serving as the designated expert for assigned categories.
Market dynamics, supplier landscape, emerging technologies, regulatory requirements, category spend by supplier, inventory, supplier performance, and fill rate performance are closely monitored and managed.
Key Responsibilities
Spend and Market Analysis: Conducts in-depth market and financial analysis to decipher critical market forces and mitigate associated business risks. Utilizes analysis of market and spend data to prioritize and target strategic sourcing initiatives within assigned categories.
Specification Management: Leads the end-to-end process from specification/definition of need through contract administration, including complex investment recovery.
Sourcing Strategies: Synthesizes spend and market analyses to devise comprehensive and effective sourcing strategies. Identifies the most strategic supply chain model to procure products and services, maximizing savings.
Competitive Process: Cultivates a culture of healthy competition to enhance performance while reducing costs. Adheres to prescribed methodologies, educates the organization, and oversees competitive bidding event execution.
Negotiations: Collaborates on negotiation strategies and company positions for highly complex contracts. Works closely with Legal to incorporate appropriate levels of commercial protection and conducts negotiations to ensure optimal business outcomes.
Supplier Development and Performance: Establishes and nurtures professional relationships with suppliers/partners, guided by the highest ethical business practices. Acts as the primary liaison to suppliers within assigned categories, developing tools and key performance measures and negotiating longer-term strategic contracts to drive cost reduction and service improvement.
Continuous Improvement: Champions "leading practices" within strategic procurement to achieve process excellence. Stays abreast of industry innovations and drives continuous improvement across functions and processes.
