Scope
Support Statutory & GAAP Accounting and Reporting Compliance and ensure process is executed in line with the NAIC, Texas Department of Insurance accounting guidelines and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. The Senior Manager will also be responsible for leading accounting staff, providing accountability for accounting and financial reporting within required timelines. Responsibilities
Statutory & GAAP Accounting and Financial Reporting
Support Close process and addressing Statutory and GAAP financial reporting requirements
Responsible for completing quarterly and annual Statutory & GAAP statements
Prevent inaccuracies in financial statements by maintaining and updating internal control systems and adopting proper policies for financial reporting
Stay current with changes on statutory and GAAP rules and regulations and be able to assess business impact
Partner cross-functionally to understand business transactions and ensure that transactional activity is complete and accurate.
Escalate risks and proactively resolve issues
Support Assistant Controller/Controller/CFO with financial analysis, capital management and support with business transactions
Lead Statutory and GAAP audits with external audit firm
Fulfill requests from regulatory and tax authorities
Mentors team members to ensure strong technical competencies for each team member
Accounting and Reporting Projects
Support Accounting Modernization / Transformation efforts
Implement improvement opportunities in accounting and reporting, utilizing reporting software and internal databases
Assist in special projects
Working with CFO, develop KPIs/measurements to effectively measure and monitor performance
Research legacy accounting processes, gain understanding to determine impact of actions needed for current financial transformation initiative.
General
Responsible for managing monthly reinsurance reporting, reconciliations, and collections
Review month-end general ledger entries
Review investment related accounts and monthly general ledger entries
Support system conversions
Support treasury/banking relationships
Perform and document controls over financial reporting
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
8 -10 years of experience in life insurance and statutory/GAAP insurance reporting
Experience in statutory insurance audits
Ability to work with cross functional teams to achieve timely completion of statutory and GAAP reporting
Experience with annual statement
Team oriented and process driven
Proficiency in MS Excel (Pivot Tables, V-Look-up etc.), Word, Visio and other Microsoft-Office products
