The Whole Child - Mental Health & Housing is a 65-year-old nonprofit organization based in Whittier, CA. We provide mental health, housing, parent enrichment, and nutrition services to vulnerable families in Los Angeles County. Our mission is to empower families towards healing, health, and homes.


POSITION DESCRIPTION:

Scope: Perform varied accounting and administrative duties in support of the Finance department. Review financial reports for the programs assigned to ensure costs are in compliance with the 2 CFR Part 200, funder requirements, agency accounting policies and procedures, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

Role: The Financial Analyst is responsible for financial reporting, which includes, budgets, forecasts, budget modifications, monthly/quarterly and annual reporting for government contracts as assigned by the CFO and Finance Manager. Monitoring revenue/expenditures for assigned programs and providing updates to the program director.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create reporting systems to track and monitor financial data for assigned programs (contracts).
  • Maintain and manage financial documents for assigned programs to include: contracts, budgets, funding requests, reconciliations, prepare journal entries as needed, program specific audits and communications with each funding agency.
  • Review expenses charged to various program to ensure accuracy and communicate any concerns to CFO.
  • Assist with reporting and monitoring in-kind matches and leverages to meet contract requirements.
  • Monthly, quarterly and annual billing for assigned programs (contracts)
  • Annual close-out of financial reporting for assigned programs including supplemental billings and reconciliations.
  • Administrator to manage the accounting system, Sage Intacct
  • Research any non-billable expenses and discuss any concerns with the CFO or program director.
  • Review general ledger postings of invoices for the various assigned programs to ensure accuracy and costs are allowable.
  • Responsible for bank reconciliations.
  • Compile data for external and internal audits under the direction of the Finance Manager.
  • Recommend accounting process improvements to the financial operations.
  • Support all existing agency policies, principles and mission.
  • Maintain confidentiality in matters of agency operation, personnel, and clients.
  • Adheres to regulations per Federal guidelines 2 CFR Part 200 and GAAP.
  • For Los Angeles County contracts, adhere to the accounting, financial reporting and internal control standards described in the Auditor-Controller Contract Accounting and Administration Handbook.
  • Adhere to The Whole Child’s Accounting & Policies Procedures Handbook.
  • Attend staff meetings.
  • Exercise good judgment in performance of all duties and responsibilities.
  • Other related duties as assigned and approved by the CFO and Finance Manager

  • Ability to work in a busy environment, under pressure without comprising accuracy, attention to detail.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Advance skills in MS Excel, MS Word.
  • Sage Intacct experience preferred
  • Non-profit experience preferred.
  • BA/BS in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in the accounting field or equivalent education and experience, is required.

  • $68,000-87,000.00/year starting pay, depending on experience.


WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work is performed in a normal office setting. The noise level is moderate with occasional loud outbursts. May need to work out in the field contacting clients.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time
  • Needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
  • Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, (i.e., calculator, copy machine and computer printer).
  • May need to use motor vehicle for business purposes.
