Security Manager

Principal Function: The role of the Security Manager is to manage security operations on Conner Prairie property 24x7 utilizing the existing security staff. This is a working role that will involve working shifts at the security desk as well as providing physical security monitoring on the grounds. The Security Supervisor will respond to incidents occurring on the grounds and provide conflict resolution and support to staff encountering issues with guests.

PAY RANGE: $1600 - $1750/pay period or $41,000 - $45,500 annually

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Maintains situational awareness of natural and man-made events which could potentially compromise the safety and security of personnel, business operations and the critical infrastructure.
  • Provides security support to special events and festivals.
  • Monitors weather and notifies personnel onsite when threatening weather is approaching.
  • Coordinates the scheduling of all officers weekly and for specific shifts or events.
  • Ensure that all reports and logs of daily activities and irregularities such as equipment or property damage, theft, presence of unauthorized persons, or unusual occurrences and any other related paperwork is properly completed prior to the end of the shift.
  • Completes fairly, timely and accurately, all performance evaluations on officers when required.
  • Conducts onboarding and training of new Security staff.
  • Report all incidents, accidents, or medical emergencies occurring after hours as required. Responds to emergencies, including medical, fire, and security alarms on property.
  • Implements appropriate emergency responses to fire, safety, and access procedures by following security procedures established for these emergency protocols.
  • Maintains a calm, polite and professional demeanor during potentially stressful encounters with guests.
  • Assists guests regarding general inquiries and museum rules by representing the Museum and security staff in a professional and customer service-oriented manner.
  • Patrols interior spaces as well as outdoors as necessary, observing guests and to deter any interaction or harm to animals or property.
  • Becomes familiar with daily operations to assist with opening and closing procedures.
  • Performs periodic patrols of the perimeter of the Conner Prairie property to identify any damage, vandalism, or breech that affects the security integrity of the property.
  • Reports through verbal and written means, unusual circumstances, public safety hazards or any other incidents to the AVP of Facilities-Security.
  • Monitors access to restricted and semi-restricted areas of the property; ensures staff, visitors, volunteers, contractors and guests hold appropriate credentials.
  • Ensures adherence of museum security policies by guests, visitors, volunteers, contractors and staff. Communicates infractions of museum security policies when appropriate.
  • Operates, monitors and responds accordingly using various security communication systems (two-way radio, emergency phones), fire and security alarm systems (intrusion, space, point protection, smoke, heat and pull station alarms) and closed-circuit television surveillance systems, etc.

  • Current, valid Indiana driver’s license

  • Ability to operate sophisticated surveillance systems

  • Working knowledge of guest service standards
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of law enforcement, security and fire inspection procedures
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervision of security staff.

Education And/or Experience

  • High School Diploma or HSE (High School Equivalency)
  • Three (3) years of proven experience in security and first response
  • CPR, First-Aid, AED certification or proof of attainment within 6 months of employment
  • Conflict resolution training preferred, but not required

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is exposed to working in wet or humid conditions (non-weather), and outdoor weather conditions. The employee will occasionally work near moving mechanical parts, in high, precarious places, near fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold (non-weather), extreme heat (non-weather), risk of electrical shock, and work with explosives. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.

Conner Prairie is generally open from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday, this position will be required to work beyond these hours and when open for special events.
