Kelly Government Solutions is seeking an experienced individual to work on-site as a Scientist (Protein Expression & Purification) at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD.
TASKS
(1) Develop analytical protein purification methods for antigens under consideration as vaccine candidates. Purification methods include affinity chromatography, IEC, and SEC using an AKTA FPLC system.
(2) Perform experiments related to developing analytical protein purification methods for analysis of bulk material of malaria antigens under consideration as vaccine candidates, a wide variety of complex procedures and techniques, such as high-throughput expression of proteins in mammalian cell culture, yeast, baculovirus and bacterial cells; expression plasmid cloning and preparation; recombinant protein analysis/chemistry; buffer preparation; SDS-PAGE; western blotting; ELISA; thermal shift assays, SEC/LSFPLC and BLI; affinity chromatography; results from animal studies; immunoassays; and flow cytometry experiments.
(3) Perform all steps required for recombinant protein expression, such as high-throughput expression of proteins in mammalian cell culture, yeast, baculovirus and bacterial cells; expression plasmid cloning and preparation.
(4) Perform immunoassays and flow cytometry experiments on animal and human samples.
(5) Evaluate outcomes and results of animal studies.
(6) Perform computational protein design and production of designed proteins.
(7) Maintain crystallography plate supplies using automated liquid handling robots, perform automated crystallization screening, analyze crystal screens to identify growth conditions, reporting results and data storage.
(8) Assist with, interpret, evaluate and discuss the result of each experiment as part of the planning process.
(9) Perform computer analysis of data and use computer and computer software to prepare data for publication.
(10) Assist with routine equipment maintenance as well as order and maintain laboratory supplies and equipment including chemicals, biological materials, liquid nitrogen; handle biological materials, infectious agents, biological wastes, etc.
REQUIREMENTS
(1) Ph.D. degree in a science related field. Candidates possessing a bachelor’s or master’s degree and relevant experience may also be considered.
(2) Minimum of one (1) year of related experience in biology, chemistry, and/or biophysics including use of automation and instrumentation.
(3) Significant experience with protein expression systems and use of AKTA purification systems and Unicorn software
(4) Advanced experience with PowerPoint and other graphics programs.
