Join our team at Amazing Athlete's After School Program at PS 166 as a Science K-1 Afterschool Instructor! We're seeking a dynamic and passionate educator to inspire the young minds of kindergarteners and first graders. Your mission is to make learning science enjoyable and accessible, laying the foundation for a lifelong love of discovery.

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop and implement age-appropriate science curriculum for students in grades K-1
  • Create engaging lesson plans and accompanying materials, such as slides and hands-on activities, based on provided outlines
  • Utilize effective teaching strategies to convey scientific concepts in a digestible way for young children
  • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment where students feel encouraged to explore and ask questions
  • Use classroom management techniques to maintain a productive and respectful atmosphere during lessons
  • Collaborate with colleagues and parents to support student learning and development
  • Assess student progress and provide feedback to ensure academic growth
  • Communicates effectively and timely with management regarding student and program related matters.
  • Uses company-wide digital platforms to perform administrative tasks (ie: taking attendance, submitting incident reports as needed, etc.)

Schedule:

  • Days: Wednesday & Friday
  • Time: 2:40pm - 5:40pm

Requirements

  • Previous experience working with children, preferably in an educational setting
  • Bachelor's degree with a focus on education preferred
  • Basic knowledge of science and the scientific method
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to convey complex concepts, rules and expectations in a clear and understandable way for young children
  • The ability to create effective lesson plans and teaching materials
  • Confidence and assertiveness in using voice for classroom management purposes
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently, while also collaborating effectively with others
  • Must be punctual and reliable
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • High level of professionalism and motivation
  • Neat, professional appearance
