Position Highlights

The College of Medicine Department of Psychiatry is leading the effort to understand, diagnose, treat, and prevent psychiatric disorders, prepare future clinicians, provide state-of-the-art care, and give direction to community efforts to improve behavioral health.

William “Scott” Killgore, PhD, is a Professor of Psychiatry, Psychology, and Neuroscience that joined the University of Arizona on July 1, 2014. He brings an active research program from Harvard Medical School and McLean Hospital, including his Social, Cognitive, and Affective Neuroscience (SCAN) Laboratory. The Lab is devoted to the study of emotional intelligence, PTSD, mTBI, stress and related conditions. Dr. Killgore’s innovative work is funded by the Department of Defense, and recent research focuses on effects of prolonged sleep deprivation, chronic sleep restriction, and the use of stimulant countermeasures on the cognitive-affective systems within the brain.

We are looking to hire a part-time Researcher/Scientist III to assist in executing study recruitment, collection procedures, analysis, and reporting to fit specific research requirements.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Using expert knowledge, independently develops and modifies innovative and technical study designs, testing, and final databases set ups for analysis pulls for 4 clinical trials involving human subjects.
  • Serves as a point of contact and collaborator with internal and external stakeholders, including working with military special operations command units, forces command, and reserve units for military study recruitment efforts.
  • Collaborates with research team and provides recommendations to fit specific experimental requirements outcomes.
  • Participates in confidential vetting of military servicemembers for Department of Defense research studies.
  • Responsible for writing study procedures and techniques. Ensures safety compliance of participants, adherence to policies, and quality assurance of the database.
  • Collaborates in the recruitment of military servicemembers and military organization support for Department of Defense research studies and grants.
  • Works on highly complex data prepping of all data repositories for the Department of Defense for final scientific reporting to include data cleaning, database management of clinical trials, quantitative/qualitative statistical analysis.
  • Maintains detailed records of research results, data acquisition, and data and statistical analysis of studies conducted.
  • Utilizes strong decision making to review progress, resolve problems, and evaluate process improvements to increase efficiency, optimize testing procedures, and reduce errors.
  • Participates in the preparation of technical reports, grants, summaries, protocols, and quantitative results including graphing and presentation of findings in laboratory meetings.
  • Collaborates and communicates outcomes to the research team.
  • Provides researcher support including coordinating schedules, handling intake, and maintaining records and files. Some oversight of regulatory records maintenance.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience collaborating with military organizations for recruitment efforts.
  • Experience in Department of Defense funded human subjects research.
  • Experience performing data management, quantitative and qualitative data analysis, and scientific reporting for human subjects research.
