The University of Iowa Institute for Clinical and Translational Science (ICTS) Engagement, Integration and Implementation Core is seeking a research specialist to conduct highly technical and specialized scientific research by performing qualitative and ethnographic studies and theoretical investigations; analyzing data; disseminating research findings; and assisting with grant writing. Key areas of responsibility include instrument development; data collection (qualitative interviews and observations) and theoretical investigations; data/research analysis and evaluation; dissemination of research results; research proposals/grants; service; and human resources/supervision.

About ICTS: The Institute for Clinical and Translational Science (ICTS) at the University of Iowa was approved by the Iowa Board of Regents in 2007 to support the work of investigators involved in clinical and translational science. Our mission is to accelerate translational science through programs to develop the translational workforce, to promote engagement of community members and other stakeholders, to promote research integration across the lifespan, and to catalyze innovative clinical and translational research. These efforts will lead to the development of novel therapies and healthcare delivery strategies, the integration of translational research and clinical practice, and, ultimately to measurable improvements in the health of Iowa and the nation.

Per policy, work arrangements will be reviewed annually, and must comply with the remote work program and related policies and employee travel policy when working at a remote location.

Additional Information
Duties To Include But Not Limited To
- Compare results of scientific investigations to previously published work using systematic review techniques and background literature reviews.
- Perform theoretical investigations and program evaluations.
- Review data integrity
- Analyze and integrate mixed methods data.
- Consult and collaborate with the research community across the translational science spectrum.
- Contribute to documentation of equipment and software and research protocols and procedures.
- May provide functional and/or administrative supervision for staff both in the Institute for Clinical and Translational Science and on research teams with which ICTS service cores collaborate.

Required Qualifications
- A Master’s degree in anthropology, sociology, health services research or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
- A minimum of three years related research experience designing, coordinating, and supporting data collection activities, including instrument development, data processing, and data dissemination is required.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
- Experience with qualitative research methods, interviewing, observing participants, conducting focus groups; developing interview guides is required.
- Experience utilizing qualitative software and performing thematic content analysis is required.
- Experience assisting with writing and editing for grant proposals, research briefs, and other documents is required.
- Valid driver’s license and the ability to meet and maintain University Driving Policy standards.
- Experience working at an academical medical institution or the VA healthcare system is desirable.
