Description
Stanford Securities Litigation Analytics is a research hub within Stanford Law School focusing on public company shareholder litigation and corporate governance matters. SSLA closely collaborates with legal practitioners and risk managers to pursue research questions with practical applications. SSLA’s Research Fellowship position is designed to provide recent college or master’s program graduates looking for experience and exposure to the field and for those considering graduate school, law school, and/or business school in the future.
The person in this position will report to the Executive Director of the SSLA project, Jason Hegland, and SSLA Fellow & Research Manager David Gonyer. The person in this position will be responsible for data collection, data analysis, drafting blog posts, articles and reports, and the expansion of the database into new areas of corporate and securities litigation. The person in this position will use various research tools, such as Bloomberg Law, Lexis Securities Mosaic, Sentieo, CRSP and Compustat/CapIQ financial database, etc.

Duties
- Aggregating and reviewing court filings, SEC disclosures, academic papers, news reports and industry
- Extracting data from research sources and entering it into SSLA databases related to corporate and securities litigation
- Statistical analyses of data in those databases
- Communication with research collaborators and industry practitioners
- Analyzing the data and contributing to publication drafts
- Working with other SSLA researchers and developers to identify opportunities for improving data quality and research methodology
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in the social sciences or another relevant field
- Outstanding academic credentials and intellectual creativity
- Coursework in statistics or econometrics
- Experience with empirical research
- Writing experience and coursework in social sciences preferred, but not required
- Programming experience in Stata or R is preferred, but not required
- Experience and excellent skills in displaying data using Excel
