This position is responsible for the support of R&D activities located in the Double B Foods R&D offices. This role will be key to the creation of product samples in support of projects encompassing NPD, renovation, quality enhancements, assured ingredient supply, and cost of goods optimization. The responsibilities include the organization of samples, packaging samples, shipment, conducting plant trials, sensory analysis, product specifications, and sourcing production ingredients/finished products needed for sample shipments.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Daily cleaning and organizing of R&D lab, storage area, and office area.
Weekly monitoring of ambient and refrigerated ingredient inventory to ensure materials are readily available for support of projects.
Follow protocol for labeling and identifying materials received.
Prepare products and assist with product sensory evaluations.
Provide support of benchtop sample production in the R&D lab.
Contributor to ideations drawing on Culinary inspired recipes.
Coordinate sample requests with R&D team and sales.
Package product samples for shipping to customers and conduct cooking instructions in accordance with food safety requirements.
Maintain good manufacturing practices, housekeeping and safe work area.
Read, interpret, and understand product specifications for ingredients.
Working comprehension of SAFETY DATA SHEETS and protocol for handling chemicals.
Capable of handling multiple job responsibilities and maintain a level of efficiency.
Able to effectively communicate verbally and in written form.
Assemble and disassemble kitchen equipment to clean and sanitize.
File and organize all documentation for projects both digitally and in printed form.
Document and summarize details and circumstances involving all assigned job tasks.
Perform data entry and compile computer reports as required.
Assist on special projects and analysis as needed.
Requirements
Education and Abilities
Minimum BS degree in food science and/or culinary technical discipline (i.e. food or meat science, culinary science)
Accurately analyze data with basic statistical analysis.
Computer skills - working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite Programs (Teams, Word, Excel, Outlook). Working knowledge with ESHA Genesis but not required.
Frozen food and/or dough experience
1 to 3 years’ experience in food industry
Prefer working knowledge of USDA and FDA Regulations pertaining to labeling and food products for accurate product design. Product standard of identity comprehension.
Limited travel required to manufacturing facility.
Detail oriented and self-motivated.
Must be able to stand for periods of time with frequent moving throughout the R&D area.
Bending/Push/pull/lift boxes up to 50 pounds.
Prepare large product sample containers for shipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
Able to read, write, and speak English.
