Remote Work - Need Java/COBOL Developer

  • JAVA and COBOL development and support every 4th week
  • Reducing Incidents through remediation & automation

  • Mortgage AND/OR Insurance industry experience is a plus

In this role, you will work with business units and analysts to identify and understand business problems and goals. You will then design, implement, and support the solutions to those goals. This position entails 70% product support (e.g. tier2 support, adhocs for business, security remediation & small iterative changes/enhancements to legacy systems, migrating legacy applications to new infrastructure); 30% new features/project work.

  • Support deployed software by investigating issues and rolling out needed patches
  • Support the team in tier 2 incidents
  • Develop high quality, secure, scalable & maintainable software, abiding by CLIENT’s coding

standards

  • Review code with other developers to share project and technical knowledge
  • Deploy projects within CLIENT’s build and deploy pipeline, includes transitioning first line

support to IT Ops team

  • Collaborate with developers, analysts, and QA testers to plan and execute in a high-energy

Agile environment

  • Participate in technical planning, determine tasks associated with project assignments,

estimates and dependencies

  • Work with Enterprise Architecture to design software solutions that supports the Mortgage

Insurance life cycle

  • Update and modernize CLIENT code to the latest supported versions to ensure security,

stability, and support

  • Flex to work with new technologies and tools as CLIENT explores new ways to deliver

business solutions

  • Further develop CLIENT’s continuous testing and secure coding standards
  • Effectively communicate project status and deliveries to team and management
  • Mentor and counsel junior teammates

Do you have what it takes?

Education: Completion of Bachelors Degree in Business Administration, Computer Science or Information Systems. Additional experience (2 years) beyond the minimum (below) may be substituted for education beyond an Associate Degree.

Experience

  • Between 2 and 5 years of experience using Java
  • Experience with COBOL, Telon, DB2, Oracle, JCL, CICS, MQ & SCLM (Admin experience a plus)
  • Experience with Agile methodology using Scrum or similar
  • Working knowledge of Spring, Hibernate, API development, web-enabled applications, and

relational databases

  • Ability to create and execute test cases using JUnit with a mindset toward continuous testing
  • Ability to create scalable technical solution designs
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills (upward, lateral and downward)
  • Eye on continuous improvement
  • Forward thinking on long-term vision/goals
  • Experience with ServiceNow ticketing, a plus
  • Experience with JIRA, a plus
