Job Summary

BASIC FUNCTION:

Under the direction of the Reliability Process Manager, the Reliability Engineer will administer daily reviews of Company’s failure data reporting, drive the forensic process and follow up with corrective action development and tracking for drilling rig equipment and procedure improvements. The Reliability Engineer will be responsible for analyzing data and identifying trends to identify drilling equipment components and their corresponding failure modes to develop corrective action plans. compiling reports for management and liaising with rig operations and vendors to understand and communicate failure data. Finally, the Reliability Engineer will ensure timely execution of forensic activities, compilation of failure reports and closure of corrective action; including tracking of solution implementation and verification of its effectiveness.

Job Description

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Administer and Track Transocean Event Report (TER) Reviews:

  • Administers Daily Reliability TER Reviews
  • Follows up on actions from Daily Technical Reviews with Rig, OEM and TFS/Engineering
    • Drive follow up action and communicate with technical person in charge (PIC)
    • Develop rules of engagement to gather follow up information with rigs
    • Ensure appropriate record in the CMMS is completed
    • Drive to closure and verify effectiveness
  • Monitors and facilitates progress in the TER process to ensure timely closeout
    • Weekly Open TER report review
  • Data Analysis: Systematic TER analysis
    • Develops new techniques for analyzing downtime and corrective maintenance history to identify problem areas
      • TER analysis
      • CM analysis
  • Defines possible output (CATS / local tracking)
  • Takes the opportunity to check data quality of the associated CM

Administer and Track Failure Data Quality Reviews (TER and CMMS):

  • Administers Weekly and/or Monthly Data Quality Reviews with SMEs
    • Follow up on gaps (CM / TER) to close the reporting process
  • Establishes and evaluate data quality metrics and report accordingly
  • Ensures required data changes are input into Transocean Company Management Systems as required.
  • Coaches and train rig operations and data entry personnel on best practices for data entry and management
    • Maintains a thoughtful and measured approach on providing feedback and asking for adjustment to be made.
  • Ensure CM data contains appropriate level of data for initial forensic assessment

Drive the Forensic Process:

  • Assists in developing initial root cause determination and share preliminary findings
  • Identifies and coordinates forensic opportunities through data analysis and failure data review processes
  • Drives engagement between Rig/TFS and Vendor performing forensic activities
  • Expedites all phases of forensic process
    • Develops KPI and communicate in company’s dashboard reporting systems
    • Drives investigations to closure
  • Follows up to ensure final report received and root cause information put back into data systems

QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum of 7 years related industry experience.

EDUCATION: Engineering degree or equivalent training and experience.

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Expert knowledge of drilling system equipment
  • Working knowledge of reliability and statistical techniques
  • Working knowledge of data science
  • Working knowledge of subsea systems and well control equipment
  • Offshore operations experience
  • Proficient in company management and reporting systems
  • Working knowledge of company maintenance process
  • Understanding of drilling operations and cost impacts

SKILLS:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and general computer skills
  • Strong analytical and research skills
  • Very good communication skills – written and verbal
  • Positive attitude
  • Detail oriented
  • Tenacious approach to closing out actions

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

In this position, the Reliability Engineer could be expected to spend long periods of time on a computer and on the phone, inputting data and following up on actions. Additionally, the Reliability Engineer will be expected to be able to make rig visits (minimum 2 a year)

DECISION MAKING: Must be able to make decisions based on data from various company systems as well as interrogate data accuracy.
