Scope
The Reaction Engineer provides chemical reaction engineering expertise to AVN Corporation and its customers; ensures the organization stays current on developments in reaction engineering; strives to be a leader in reaction technology in the chemical industry; leads projects as a project manager when appropriate and available; is safety-focused in their role and with co-workers; and supports the AVN Corporation culture of diversity and respect for our colleagues.
This position will start employment in the Summer of 2025.
Essential Job Functions
Provides chemical reaction engineering expertise on projects. Tasks include developing and analyzing experimental programs to understand the reaction kinetics, specifying and scoping the design of reactors for specific applications, and understanding and addressing reactor scale-up issues from the bench to pilot plant to commercial scale.
Stay current on developments in the field through literature, conferences, and personal contacts. Shares important advances with others on the AVN Corporation staff.
Safety is the top priority, ensuring others with whom they interact demonstrate good safety practices.
Serves as laboratory supervisor; directs laboratory technicians and manages the program progress and plans.
Other Job Functions
May provide technical support at customer locations, such as during technology implementations.
May meet with potential customers to understand their opportunities and explain how AVN Corporation can advance their technology to commercialization.
May assist other project teams with general chemical engineering insight.
May represent AVN Corporation at external conferences and other business development opportunities.
Required Education
Master’s degree in chemical engineering with a focus on reaction engineering topics.
Doctoral degree (Ph.D.) in chemical engineering with a focus on reaction engineering topics, preferred.
Required Skills
Strong understanding of chemical engineering principles, focusing on reaction engineering.
High level of technical aptitude and creativity
Knowledge of scientific research methods and data analysis.
Capable of working independently on short and long-term projects.
Able to work effectively within multi-functional teams.
Strong organizational skills and demonstrated project management abilities.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
Comfortable with providing leadership and direction to technical staff.
Required Experience
Completion of a graduate research project and defense of the thesis.
Experience modeling with computational fluid dynamics software packages is a plus.
