Project Engineer

Description

Function:

The purpose of the Project Engineer is to assist the Project Manager, and the Project Superintendent, in completing the assigned projects in a quality manner, in the required time frame and within the specified budget. The construction and design issues as they relate to the project. The Project Engineer serves as Miles-McClellans representative to the subcontractors and suppliers involved with each project. The Project Engineer is responsible for maintaining and distributing all construction documents to the appropriate parties. The project Engineer is responsible for the protection and promotion of the interests of Miles-McClellan at all times. The Project Engineer reports directly to the Project Manager assigned to each project. Typically the Project Engineer reports to the Project Manager who supervises the Project Team that the Project Engineer has been assigned to. However, workload may dictate that the Project Engineer assists other Project Managers outside the assigned Project Team.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate the engineering and construction functions as they relate to the project.
  • Obtain plans and specifications and distribute them to the subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Submit for the building permit, unless done by Architect, and obtain any other permits that are required.
  • Help with obtaining the Notice of Commencement and any Notice of Furnishing.
  • Work with the Project Manager on the project, enclosure and site work schedules. Help with the update of the schedules as needed.
  • Prepare submittal, delivery and finish schedules. Update the schedules as needed. Make phone calls necessary to obtain any information that is needed or to expedite any approvals or decisions.
  • Be involved in pre-construction meetings. Prepare and distribute minutes as needed.
  • Review submittals and shop drawings to verify their conformance to the contract documents.
  • Expedite submittal and shop drawing review from the Architect and/or Engineer.
  • Work with the Project Superintendent on weekly scheduling.
  • Assist the Project Superintendent in obtaining Miles-McClellan labor or expediting any subcontractor labor.
  • Assist the Project Manager with the invoices to the owner.
  • Have trade pre-construction meetings as well as weekly coordination meeting with subcontractors.
  • Issue bulletins and expedite pricing from the subcontractors and suppliers based on the bulletins. Maintain bulletin log.
  • Obtain owner change order pricing and deliver to architect for review. Follow up with the Architect for approval.
  • Issue change orders to subcontractors and suppliers after the Project Manager has reviewed and approved them. Issue cost adjustments.
  • Forward requests for information to the Architect and maintain the RFI log as needed. Distribute Architects reply to all trades involved.
  • Help with the negotiation of problems with the Owner, Architect, Engineer, Subcontractor and Suppliers.
  • Help Project Superintendent with as-built and forward those drawings to the appropriate parties upon completion of the job.
  • Participate in any Project Team operations meetings or any other meetings that have an impact on Miles-McClellan.
  • Update plans and specifications with addenda, bulletins or requests for information at the beginning of the project and as the project progresses.
  • Develop punch lists and distribute to subcontractors and suppliers. Coordinate a punch list meeting with the subcontractors and suppliers regarding the punch list.
  • Coordinate necessary paperwork, approvals, and personnel for a life safety meeting.
  • Obtain occupancy permit and forward original to Owner for their use.
  • Work with the Project Manager with the final invoice and retainage request.
  • Follow up with any warranty work as needed.

  • Ability to communicate well both verbally and in writing
  • OSHA 30 hour
  • B.S. Degree in engineering, architecture, or construction management
