Job Summary

Reporting to the Assistant Dean for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging, the Program Coordinator for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB) develops, implements, and manages school-wide student, alumni, and community engagement activities and initiatives in compliance with the Isenberg School of Management (ISOM) Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging priorities focused on our ISOM student population. The position works with key Isenberg units and stakeholders to plan events to increase participation and engagement; and to create publicity, including social media that promotes DEIB initiatives. Additionally, the position collects, manages and analyzes data related to the Isenberg DEIB Program and its initiatives.    

 

Essential Functions

  • Works collaboratively with the Assistant Director of Student Success for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging, the graduate faculty directors, and graduate and undergraduate program directors to develop an annual schedule of activities and events for students from historically underrepresented groups to enhance engagement and community building, strengthening feelings of inclusion and belonging, and thereby, improving retention.
  • Provides leadership development guidance to undergraduate and graduate diverse student populations, as well as support to the faculty/staff advisors of these student organizations.
  • Works collaboratively with the Assistant Dean of Student Success for DEIB to coordinate and oversee events like BIPOC ceremonies and/or heritage month events.
  • Serves as an office representative at signature university events such as New Student Orientation, Open House, Homecoming, Admitted New Students Day, etc. 
  • Partners with the support of ISOM Event Management staff to plan, manage, and promote events such as the Inclusive Leadership Summit; the Conversations With . . . Speaker Series; assists with the Women of Isenberg Conference and other student club and alumni engagement events. This includes the identification and scheduling of speakers; the selection and scheduling of rooms and catering; speaker travel arrangements; and appropriate marketing and communications for events using social media accounts. 
  • Assists with the execution and implementation of local, regional and national recruitment of prospective graduate and undergraduate students from historically underrepresented groups and retention programming for current students.
  • Implements strategy for marketing, publicity, and communications; identifying and executing publicity initiatives to maximize DEIB’s visibility. Maintains social media accounts in line with the DEIB strategy. Coordinates with the Isenberg School’s Marketing and Communications team to develop and disseminate marketing and promotion materials including timely methods for marketing through alternative channels.  Contributes to the management of internal and external communications, events, & alumni relations for DEIB Programs.

 

Other Functions

  • Performs other duties as assigned relative to moving DEIB initiatives forward.
  • Works collaboratively and effectively on a team to support DEIB strategic priorities of the Isenberg School and University of Massachusetts. 
  • Maintains a budget for programs and activities.
  • Manages student staff and volunteers.

 

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

  • Bachelor's degree and one to three (1-3) years of experience in event planning, advising and/or programming support. 
  • Demonstrated commitment to DEIB initiatives.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability and experience effectively interact and communicate with high-level professionals. 
  • Excellent interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills, including working with marketing materials, designing websites, social media, etc.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment to solve problems as they arise when managing or hosting events and activities.
  • Ability to work on a team and manage multiple priorities with willingness to adapt and help others as needed.
  • Understands responsibilities with respect to Title IX, Clery Act, and other compliance requirements.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in standard office products such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. 
  • Experience with multiple software and applications (Microsoft Office Suite, OneDrive, ZOOM, Microsoft Teams, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, and others).
  • Ability to work occasional night and/or weekend events.
  • Occasional travel for off campus local, regional and national events or meetings.

 

Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education, Experience, Certifications, Licensure)

  • One (1) year (or more) of work experience on DEIB programming, advising or initiatives in a higher education setting. 
  • Advanced experience in marketing and communications.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative with fulfilling responsibilities, making administrative judgments, and assuming responsibility for decisions. 
  • Experience working from an intersectional framework in supporting diverse student populations.

 

Work Schedule    

  • Monday – Friday, 8:30am – 5:00pm.
  • Required to work some nights and weekends.
  • This position has the opportunity for a hybrid work schedule, which is defined by the University as an arrangement where an employee’s work is regularly performed at a location other than the campus workspace for a portion of the week. As this position falls within the Professional Staff Union, it is subject to the terms and conditions of the Professional Staff Union collective bargaining agreement.
