Production Designer (Contract)

The opportunity

The Production Designer will be a critical partner in the rollout of a new brand identity for Harvard Business Publishing and is responsible for the cohesive implementation of new visual standards across a wide range of assets for print and digital applications. The Production Designer brings expert software skills, meticulous attention to detail, and strong task management, file organization, and systems thinking skills. This highly focused role supports the work of multiple designers in a busy, in-house agency team that provides design and video services to all groups within Harvard Business Publishing. This role requires superior technical skills and an enthusiasm for process and detail-oriented work.

What You'll Do

  • Develop new or adapt existing designs for brand assets including but not limited to stationery, marketing materials, digital content, and signage.
  • Develop new templates for future assets.
  • Monitor the team’s design output to ensure consistency and adherence to new brand system.
  • Prepare and deliver production-ready files for print and digital platforms, ensuring accuracy and quality.
  • Implement design feedback, copy changes, and proofreader corrections
  • Prepare final press- or “post-ready” files based on supplied specifications for print/digital mediums
  • Upload, distribute, and archive based on operating procedures
  • Support accessibility efforts by implementing content formatting to adhere to best practices
  • Format Microsoft Word documents and build new templates
  • Recommend process improvements and keep related process documentation clear and up to date.

What We're Looking For

  • 5+ years of graphic design experience in an in-house or agency setting or equivalent work experience in a high-volume environment.
  • Extensive level of mastery and enthusiasm for Adobe Creative Suite and a Mac-based design environment. (Adobe Creative Suite: InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, particularly MS Word, and familiarity with creating templates.
  • Familiarity with Box and Jira platforms, a plus.
  • Ability to troubleshoot design and software challenges.
  • Advanced knowledge of industry-standard processes for digital media and print production.
  • High visual sensitivity to typography and layout.
  • Ability to quickly adapt to shifting priorities and work under tight deadlines; ability to set goals, multitask, and prioritize workload while remaining organized.
  • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills and a professional, client-focused manner.
