Press Car Technician

Role Summary

  • Perform repairs and service work on Press Cars to make “Best of Series” condition
  • Remove and install interior parts such as trim panels, seats, dashboard, carpet, etc.
  • Remove and install exterior parts such as bumpers, mirrors, windows, wheel wells, lights, etc.
  • Clean inside and outside of entire vehicle
  • Remove, dismount, remount tires/wheels
  • Perform setup and installations for equipment for Test vehicles
  • Install test parts in various locations
  • Replace components for evaluations
  • Support other departments as requests come up

Role Responsibilities

Press Car Reuse Inspections (RUI) – (10%)

  • Perform repairs and service actions on all automotive systems per RUI
  • Perform acoustic repairs with special regards to NVH concerns

Press Car Perfect Delivery Inspections (PDI) – (70%)

  • Perform repairs and service actions on all automotive systems per PDI
  • Perform Press car specific inspections with regards to appearance, equipment and function
  • Support Press car break-In process including brake embedding

Technical Support at Press/Media Events - (10%)

  • Perform repairs and service actions on all automotive systems as needed
  • Inspect inbound and outbound Press cars for damages and coordinate/check rework as necessary
  • Perform technical and emergency support for media drives

Training and Qualification – (5%)

  • Self-study repair instructions (e.g. in ElsaPro)
  • Self-train and attend instructor led training to keep up with changes and advances in automotive technology

Technical Support for Other Departments – (5%)

Setup and install specialized equipment or parts

Qualifications

Years of Experience:

  • 5 Years auto industry experience

Education - Required

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Current US Driver’s License

Education - Desired

  • Automotive Technology Certificate/Degree

Skills

  • Good customer service skills
  • Great work ethic, self-motivated, disciplined, positive and confident attitude
  • Strong technical aptitude with desire to expand technical knowledge and skills
  • Analytical, critical and conceptual thinking – using logic and reason, creative and strategic
  • Team player, works well as a member of a team or group

Specialized Skills - Required

  • Press/Show car preparation experience
  • Broad Noise Vibration Harshness analysis experience
  • Problem solving skills
  • Experience with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word

Specialized Skills - Desired

  • Volkswagen/Audi/Porsche Master Technician
  • HVE (CVEP) certified
  • Experience with VW R&D departments
  • Automotive audit experience (e.g. CP5, CP8)
  • VW product portfolio knowledge
  • Diagnostic and flashing experience

Work Flexibility

  • Monday – Friday with occasional overtime for evening and weekends
  • Readiness for 20%-30% domestic and international travel (Press/Media events)
  • Readiness for professional training in the US, Germany, Mexico (for extended training periods)
  • Lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Bending/Twisting working inside vehicles
