The Idaho State Department of Agriculture is currently recruiting for an Agriculture Investigator, Sr.for Field Services in the Plant Industries Division located in the Boise office.

Example of Duties

  • Administrative Duties
  • Develop project reports and investigation reports for submission and approval to Program Manager, Bureau Chief, or Division Administrator as necessary.
  • Enforce state laws and ISDA rules.
  • Represent ISDA in meetings with grower organizations, commodity commissions, and general public, and interactions with the University of Idaho and other federal/state agencies as directed by Program Manager andBureau Chief.
  • Provide administrative and office coverage as directed by Program Manager andBureau Chief.
  • Draft correspondence as directed by Program Manager and Bureau Chief.
  • Develop routine reports, such as Activity, Vehicle, and financial reports, and submit by due date.
  • Enforce state laws and ISDA rules and conduct investigations and inspections including:
  • Phytosanitary Export Certification.
  • Field Inspections.
  • Nursery inspections & License Enforcement.
  • Feed and Fertilizer Sampling and Label Review & Enforcement.
  • Pest and Disease Surveys.
  • Quarantine Rule Enforcement.
  • Seed Enforcement under Federal and State Seed Laws/Rules.
  • Apiary Inspections.
  • Maintain Required Skill Development and Non-Supervisory Employee Training.
  • Participate in Special Projects as directed by Program Manager and Bureau Chief.
  • A cell phone with an Idaho area code, furnished by the employee, is required for this position and is eligible for reimbursement under the Cell Phone Reimbursement policy.
  • The successful candidate must be willing to work in adverse weather conditions and around dust particles in both fields and warehouses.

Minimum Qualifications:These qualifications are mandatory requirements.

  • Experience writing narrative reports.
  • Typically gained by 12 months of experience preparing narrative reports such as business reports, investigative reports, research summaries, etc. This is a requirement for this position. A 'Yes' response must be supported in your resume.

Specialty Qualifications:Thesequalifications are mandatory requirements.

  • Good knowledge of animal feed for a variety of animals, identifying and controlling weeds, pests, plant diseases and/or propagating plants.
  • Valid Driver's License.

Supplemental Information

Desirable Qualifications:These qualifications are not required; however, if you have the related background it may increase your score.

  • An accredited USDA/APHIS/PPQ Authorized Certification Official (ACO).
  • Experience in plant protection regulatory activities.
  • Ability to operate ATVs in field conditions.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks, including walking over rough terrain over extended distances, digging in soil, bending to collect samples, carrying samples and materials weighing up to 60 lbs, often over rough or muddy terrain.
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to maneuver trailers

Temporary appointments from this announcement, serving at least one thousand forty (1,040) hours of continuous service, may be hired as an entrance probationary employee without further examination for the same classification and location as announced.
