PK-5 English Language Arts Curriculum Specialist, 2024/25 school year (CURRENT INTERNAL APPLICANTS ONLY)

This position is available to current TCAPS teachers only (1 position available)

The individual awarded this position will receieve a $5000 stipend (total) paid bi-weekly thoughout the duration of the school year.

General Summary

The PK-5 District Curriculum Specialist will be responsible for facilitating the review of the district curriculum content area assigned to ensure the alignment of learning standards and teaching, as well as the alignment of assessments, textbooks, assignments, lessons, and instructional techniques. This position will ensure that TCAPS offers a viable curriculum of the content area assigned that is well organized and purposefully designed to facilitate learning, free of academic gaps and needless repetitions, and is aligned across lessons, courses, subject areas, and grade levels.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Routinely work with appropriate staff to develop, maintain, and revise district curriculum documents of the content area assigned based on systemic reviews and analysis. This includes but is not limited to the development and revision of one-page overview documents, scope and sequence, and alignment to state standards.
  • Routinely work with teacher leaders to develop common district assessments that align with state standards in the district data warehouse.
  • Regularly monitor and review data from assessments. Align learning and skills from local assessments to state/national assessments.
  • Participate in the development and evaluation of new curriculum for the content area assigned. This includes organization and support curriculum pilots prior to selection and adoption.
  • Conduct research and consult with administration and staff in the design and development of curriculum, assessment, and alignment.
  • Maintain curriculum resources to ensure documents are updated to reflect the most current revisions for the district.
  • Ensure that curriculum materials adhere to district templates and formats.
  • Develop curricular goals and outlines for updates.
  • Support staff in their understanding and development of quality-aligned maps. This includes the regular facilitation of professional development opportunities and departmental staff meetings.
  • Provide staff with examples of how maps influence regular classroom instruction.
  • Actively pursue opportunities to learn best practices in curriculum, assessment, and alignment. This includes relevant research, professional development, and other learning opportunities.
  • Use course evaluations and internal and external data collected to make recommendations to improve curriculum and instruction in the content area assigned.
  • Review elementary (and summer, if applicable) programming to ensure alignment and credit awarded for courses.
  • Assist with online rostering for curriculum for teachers and students. Communicate regularly with the Technology Department.
  • Regularly lead teacher site leaders in professional development and district goals.
  • Attend and participate in district curriculum meetings as needed.
  • Review student achievement data within the content area.
  • Ensure the district has instructional strategies for Tier 2 and Tier 3 learning. Ensure that progress monitoring is occurring throughout the school year.
  • Engage teaching staff in professional development training that will support the district’s vision of high-quality instruction.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities Required

  • Ability to manage multiple projects effectively and efficiently.
  • Strong organizational, project management, and time management skills. Detail-oriented approach.
  • Curriculum development and management experience.
  • Extensive report writing skills and the ability to use data and graphics to enhance the delivery of information.
  • Skilled in both qualitative and quantitative research methods.
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate the effectiveness of programs and make recommendations for improvements.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor train staff in setting curricular goals and objectives.
  • Excellence in written, oral, presentation, and interpersonal skills. Strong content knowledge.
