Pharmacy Tech Supervisor

Job Summary

Under the direction of the Director of Pharmacy, coordinates assigned aspects of the business, finance, quality and operational activities of the Pharmacy Department to include the administration, coordination and analysis of financial and billing policies, pharmacy operations, and assistance with I.T. functions related to these activities. Performs in an administrative support capacity. Supports and maintains business, financial, quality, and operational approved policies and procedures in collaboration with the 340b team, the pharmacy financial analyst and the Pharmacy Director. Strives for superior performance by consistently providing a product of service to leadership and staff that is recognized as ultimately contributing to the patient experience.

Primary Job Responsibilities

  • Performs the activities in support of the Pharmacy Department to include systems administration, analysis and implementation of new and existing workflows.
  • Assists directly or indirectly all pharmacy purchasing activities in coordination with the 340b team.
  • Assists 340b coordinator, Pharmacy financial analyst and pharmacy coordinators to oversee an effective drug-charge process.
  • Prepares pharmacy staff schedules, technical staff reassignments or schedule adjustments as needed to maintain efficient staffing levels, monitors attendance, processes payroll, monitors scheduling expenditures, and analyzes PTO requests.
  • Maintains technician staff by recruiting, selecting, training and orientation of employees.
  • Accomplishes technical staff job results by coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees; planning and monitoring job contributions and expectations, recommending compensation actions as result of completing performance evaluations with director.
  • Implements and enforces systems policies, procedures, and operating instructions.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and/or reviewing professional publications, and participating in professional organizations.
  • Performs quality control and quality improvement activities in conjunction with the Pharmacy Director.
  • Analyzes direct and indirect costs and determine proper allocation for recording cost elements; develop and improve methods of calculating and controlling cost; compile cost data for use in developing budget proposals; implement and monitor cost accounting procedures and manage cost systems and methods for the Pharmacy ensuring compliance with overall Hospital regulations.
  • Analyzes, develops, and maintains computer application, procedure and other systems that satisfy the needs of the department.
  • Assists IS pharmacy coordinator to oversee computer applications to ensure proper use, access, and security.
  • Participates in development of departmental goals and hospital objectives.
  • Provides general supervision over the technical staff
  • Completes departmental projects as assigned by the Director of Pharmacy
  • Prepares reports and analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendations or conclusions.
  • Provides support and participates with department, hospital, and medical staff committees for matters relating to the business and operational activities of the Pharmacy Department or medication use process of the hospital.
  • Maintains procedures for effective drug inventory management, preparation, dispensing, and charging procedures including the implementation and use of technology tools.
  • Works independently, planning work necessary to meet the needs of the department. Responsible for supplying the Director of Pharmacy with financial, system, and implementation information regarding all information technologies.
  • Demonstrates job related aspects of patient safety to assure a safe environment, safe and effective use of equipment and technology, and decreased risk of potential adverse patient occurrences.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of and supports hospital mission, vision, value statements, standards of care, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality statements, corporate compliance plan, standards of behavior, and the code of ethical behavior.
  • Serve as member of the USP 795,797, and 800 committee.
  • Other duties as assigned.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree in business/information systems, health services administration or equivalent experience required.
  • Must be a licensed and certified pharmacy technician.

Experience

1. Familiar with spreadsheet applications and work processing software.

  • Minimum of three years’ experience in pharmacy computer systems preferred.
  • Minimum of three years’ experience as certified pharmacy technician in hospital setting preferred.
  • Additional experience with respect to medical or similar information systems desirable.
