Residency Special Features

Kern Medical’s PGY-2 Ambulatory Care Residency is designed to build upon direct patient care skills developed in a PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency Program and further develop the resident into an independent practitioner that provides evidence-based quality care across a large array of medication managed disease states. Our residents will rotate through multiple hospital-based and off-site clinics where our clinical pharmacists provide medication management and have full prescriptive authority to treat chronic diseases. There are multiple pharmacist-led clinics including diabetes, anticoagulation, and hypertension. We also have multiple primary care and specialty care clinics where our clinical pharmacists and residents provide collaborative medication management with full prescriptive authority for multiple conditions including HIV, oncology, outpatient antimicrobial therapy, endocrinology, as well as the other chronic conditions aforementioned in our pharmacist-led clinics.

The PGY2 Program at Kern Medical is designed with the goal of providing broad experiences in high demand areas to better prepare the resident for ambulatory care jobs upon successful completion of the program. Residents will practice independently with a high scope of practice in varied settings. Rotations will have a longitudinal component to better help the resident provide continuity of care with the patients.

Applicants must be licensed, or eligible for licensure, as a pharmacist in the State of California.
