The City of Auburn Finance Department is looking for a talented Payroll Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will perform accounting and advanced clerical work, focusing on in-house, full-cycle payroll .

NOTE: This position is 100% in office onsite work.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

The most successful candidate for this role will have experience in:

  • Processing in-house, full-cycle payroll (not utilizing a third party system/software)
  • Reconciling benefit/retirement deductions and/or contributions against statements and/or invoices
  • Performing quarterly and annual tax filings

The City employs over 430 full time staff across nine departments and 170+ job descriptions! Roughly 50% of our benefited workforce is covered by one of five collective bargaining agreements: Commissioned Police (Officers, Sergeants, and Commanders), Non-Commissioned Police, and Teamsters. In addition to our full time staff, we have many non-benefited employees who hold a variety of positions - primarily in our Parks Recreation division.

OUR DEPARTMENT

The Finance Department is comprised of 26 team members, ranging from Utility Billing staff, to staff responsible for the budget, to operations and accounting staff. Reporting to the Financial Operations Manager, you would join one other Payroll Specialist to complete this team

Primary Duties

In this role you will:

  • Perform technical accounting duties to compute and enter all aspects of full-cycle payroll including, but not limited to, auditing timesheets; overseeing employee profile maintenance and benefit and deductions calculations and reconciliation; computing payout figures, adjustments, and garnishments; and transmitting electronic fund transfer (EFT) information.
  • Audit source documentation and information provided to be entered into the payroll system to ensure adherence to City policies, Collective Bargaining Agreements, and Federal and State Laws.
  • Reconcile and disburse payments to IRS, Social Security, Department of Retirement Systems, insurance companies, and other agencies, as required.
  • Compile, reconcile, and forward required State and Federal reports quarterly and annually.

Minimum Qualifications

WE ARE LOOKING FOR CANDIDATES WHO...

  • Have an Associate's Degree in Accounting or closely related field, AND
  • Have three (3) years payroll experience; OR
  • Have any combination of relevant education, experience, and training that demonstrates the ability to successfully perform the essential duties of this position.
