Job Description

Tharrington Smith, LLP seeks an energetic and motivated paralegal for a busy education/civil litigation practice. The ideal candidate should have at least two years of experience in civil litigation, familiarity with the North Carolina Rules of Civil Procedure, the ability to electronically file pleadings in federal and state court, and excellent organizational skills. Experience in debt collection matters is preferred but not required. Entry-level candidates who have recently completed paralegal certificate programs will also be considered. Work will include litigation in both state and federal courts and communication with clients (many of whom are public officials), opposing counsel, and court staff. Responsibilities of the position include processing debt collection payments and sending payment reminders; drafting and filing court pleadings and discovery; organizing documents and exhibits; managing docket and calendar deadlines; drafting routine correspondence; reviewing and proofreading legal documents; reviewing and redacting records; and other duties as assigned. The successful candidate will be intelligent, detail-oriented, and self-sufficient yet able to work well as part of a team. This is a full-time position with competitive pay and benefits.
