Position Overview:


The Manufacturing Institute (MI) is seeking a National Director to lead the MI’s “Women MAKE America” initiative focused on engaging women across the manufacturing sector to close the gender gap in manufacturing. The National Director will lead the development and execution of the MI’s signature annual event – the Women MAKE Awards and Leadership Conference – and develop a strategy to build on that event to engage women in manufacturing through regional activities, networking, and other leadership development initiatives such as the MI’s nationally recognized mentorship program. The National Director will also lead a team focused on achieving our goal to close the gender gap and reach 35% of women the sector by 2030 and lead the development and enhancement of strategic partnerships to scale the impact of the initiative.


The National Director will also work with the Chief Program Officer and the other MI National Directors to support the recruitment and success of women in the larger suite of MI program offerings. The position will also be responsible for contributing the MI Solutions Center platform and content with the goal of teaching companies how to successfully recruit and retain women.


A successful candidate will be an entrepreneurial leader that is committed to creatively solving challenges and delivering on our commitments while maintaining a steadfast focus on team building - both externally and internally – to drive success. This position would be leading an important portfolio of the MI’s work and serves in a key role in shaping cross-functional strategies across the organization as well.

  • Implementing the current WMA strategy while continually assessing opportunities for deepening the reach and maximizing the workforce development impact for manufacturers.


  • Thinking critically about the best ways to strengthen communications and engagement with key stakeholders and partners about our activities in the space.


  • Working with internal teams to build the overall plans for execution of the strategy including communications, marketing, and operational areas. Additionally, this position will drive implementation to ensure attainment of goals and objectives.


  • Strengthening partnerships with a wide array of external stakeholders, include senior level manufacturing executives.


  • Engaging with the MI’s Federation for Advanced Manufacturing Education (FAME) and Heroes MAKE America programs to support the success of women participating in those activities.


  • Performing program review and build a strategic engagement process for regular sponsor participation and build and drive process for involvement of sponsors & partners.


  • Identifying and recruiting new sponsors and initiative leaders. In conjunction with the MI’s Head of Partnerships and Development, this individual will help with planning, coordination and creation of fundraising materials and fundraising campaigns, including applying for and executing grant deliverables, and adhering to budgets.


  • In addition to leading the team of program managers, the National Director will be responsible creating MI-hosted women’s networking and thought leadership events, company meetings, and creation of content to enhance the awareness of the initiative and impact. As well as responding to requests for event participation and support from key external partners and supporters.
  • Serve as a key program leader and speaker to relevant internal and external stakeholder audiences about the program’s goals and objectives.


  • This position requires an innovation leader with experience in building and growing successful initiative. This position has responsibility for the development, tracking and maintenance of the program budget and ensuring adherence to plan.

Supervisory Responsibilities:


  • This position will have 2 direct reports.



We are looking for Ambitious Candidates who meet the Following Criteria:


  • A minimum of 8-10 years of experience in a combination of roles including program operations, communications, fundraising, corporate relations, or the strategy practice of a major consulting firm as well as experience with trade associations and/or 501c3 nonprofits is highly desirable.
  • Basic understanding of workforce development and education is preferred.
  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in business, marketing and/or communications is preferred.
  • Ability to make things happen; ability to set and maintain priorities and overcome obstacles. Proven ability to grow and manage programs.
  • Demonstrated ability and experience in both leading and serving as part of a high performing team of mission driven professionals.
  • Excellent communication skills, including written, verbal, and presentation skills is required. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite of products including Excel required, experience with Salesforce preferred.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 20% of the time.

Salary Range: $150,000 - $160,000 annually. This salary range represents a good faith estimate of the lowest to the highest salary for this position. The final salary offered will be based on qualifications and experience.
