Millwork Finisher (Painter)

Digifabshop is looking for an experienced Fabrication Finisher with an eye for quality and artistry with experience preparing and painting architectural metal work, sculpture, and other large-scale, high-end fabrication. Auto-body or aircraft painting experience may be applicable.

Digifabshop specializes in custom architectural interiors, building components, and fine art fabrication. Our work spans retail, hospitality, commercial, architectural features, and large-scale artwork. Our team works on technically ambitious, high-profile projects of complexity and scale.

At Digifabshop, you’ll use your expertise in preparing and painting architectural metal work, sculpture, and other large-scale, high-end fabrication to create objects that will live in some of the world’s most high-profile spaces.

Hours: (full-time, 40 hrs/wk) M-Th, 8 am – 5 pm | Fr, 8 am – 2:30 pm (regular OT expected included weekends as needed)

Location: This position is located in Albany, NY – onsite work is required

Pay: $25-$30 / hour

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Work alongside the head of our fine art fabrication group on new project requiring expertise in high-end painting techniques, prep and paint procedure for various metals (bronze, aluminum, stainless) ensuring top quality finish
  • Bodywork - assist in bodywork as needed, sanding, masking, application of body filler, etc
  • Mix paint, color match, and clear coat match with precision and expertise
  • Apply coatings as chosen by clients adhering strongly to the final client vision
  • Operate and/or assist in operation of industrial paint booth(s), following standard operating procedures
  • Perform quality control to identify surface flaws/defects; troubleshoot, address and fix surface flaws and spot repair in a timely manner
  • Determine the methods, techniques, devices, and materials that are best suited for the intended surface finish
  • Proactively seeks continuous improvement and professional development
  • Meaningfully contribute to team meetings, training, policies, strategy and culture
  • Perform other related duties as required

Job Requirements:

  • 5-7 years of experience with industrial paint including surface inspection, sanding, masking, and paint finishing, or an equivalent combination of schooling and experience
  • Able to troubleshoot equipment breakdowns and quality issues including understanding of common defects, what causes paint failures, and how to correct them
  • Must have a strong understanding of ratios for mixing paint, experience maintaining and repairing spray equipment and other related finishing equipment
  • Must be highly detail-oriented; attention to detail is critical in this role
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently; Provide accurate time estimates to complete work, with acute attention to production benchmarks and deadlines
  • Possess strong manual dexterity, steady hands, strong hand-eye coordination, and skill to work on finely detailed items; Must be capable of handling completed works with fine finishes in a careful manner
  • Must have excellent communication skills and be able to collaborate with team members, Project Managers, and workers from other departments

Physical Requirements:

  • Walking, sitting, crouching, or standing for extended periods of time
  • Constant use of hands/arms is required for repetitive motions like gripping, squeezing, or holding tools
  • Must be able to work at heights, including climbing ladders and working from scaffoldings and lifts
  • Must be able to push/pull, lift and carry up to 20lbs regularly and 50lbs occasionally
  • Visual Discrimination – The ability to match or detect differences in color, texture, and pattern both subtle and obvious

Work Environment:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, airborne particles, fumes, and loud noises
  • Employees are always required to wear P.P.E. while on the manufacturing floor
