Space Center Houston is a space exploration learning destination dedicated to revealing how science and humanity power space exploration through meaningful, moving experiences about people and the courage, innovation, and teamwork they use to expand the boundaries of what's possible. We inspire guests of all ages to connect with the significance of space exploration as incredible feats of human spaceflight continue to bring joy and wonder to the world. Owned and operated by the nonprofit Manned Space Flight Education Foundation, we are the Official Visitor Center of NASA Johnson Space Center and a Smithsonian affiliate.


We are currently seeking a full-time Manager of Experiential Learning Programs responsible for managing teams and serving as a leader implementing strategies to deliver STEM learning outcomes and experiences for diverse audiences engaging learners of different ages and supporting visits for groups and program attendees. Direct responsibility for managing the following key programs: Space Center U, Explorer Camps, Overnight Experiences, and Stars & STEM programs. Responsibilities and qualifications are shown below:


RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Lead and manage dynamic teams to conceive, innovate, and implement space exploration experiences for diverse audiences. Provide the highest quality programs positioning SCH as a leader in STEM education.
  • Ensure safety for crew members and guests attending programs.
  • Ensure diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility is woven deeply into all aspects of our programmatic work.
  • Work with the Communications teams to provide timely and complete information needed to market and promote education programs.
  • Work with the Sr. Director of Education to guide strategic planning, program evaluation, and staff development.
  • Align programs to best practices in the field of informal science education and Next Generation Science Standards, and ensure programs are achieving financial and mission-based outcomes. 
  • Lead with high standards of scientific accuracy, educational appropriateness, and accessibility in support of STEM. 
  • Develop and manage program budgets to ensure a strategic and efficient use of resources. Develop models including attendance projections, engagement, and staffing. Manage contracts with program clients.
  • Manage supplier relationships and contracts.
  • Support funding and grant proposal development.
  • Develop strong relationship with the NASA community including civil servants, contractors, and alumni.   
  • Represent SCH, as needed, in a variety of settings with donors, customers, partners, and community organizations.
  • Lead, inspire, and set objectives for teams, including appropriate program specialists, coordinators, assistants, consultant(s) and additional staff.
  • Formally and regularly communicate to all direct reports relevant and appropriate operational and organization information. 
  • Ensure that staffing schedules optimize program productivity and budget.
  • Ensure accurate completion of employee performance appraisals.
  • Other duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Education or a related STEM field; Master’s Degree preferred. Project management certification a plus. 
  • A minimum of 5 years of related experience in project management or operations including 3 years with direct management of large teams.
  • A passion for innovative STEM education programing. Experience teaching and developing innovative STEM education programs preferred. 
  • A passion for space exploration.
  • Ability to manage fee-based programs and program budgets.
  • Work schedule includes some evenings and weekends.
  • Proven ability to adapt to a changing environment and work effectively in pressure situations; demonstrated ability to work well with a variety of personalities in a team-oriented structure.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to be creative in reaching innovative solutions.
  • Excellent project management skills with proven ability to manage large teams, priorities, and deadlines with attention to detail in a demanding environment.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, writing, and verbal communication skills.


Salary Range: $70,000 - $75,000 (commensurate with experience)
