Carbide Industries, the leading manufacturer of Calcium Carbide, is seeking a full-time Maintenance Manager for our Calvert City, KY facility. 


Calcium Carbide is widely used as a desulfurization reagent for treating liquid metal in iron foundries and steel plants. It is also the primary source of Acetylene Gas for metal fabrication and construction and is a vital ingredient in the manufacture of many specialty chemicals. Our Calvert City facility generates Acetylene for customers in the fuel gas and specialty chemical markets.

Position Summary

The Maintenance Supervisor supervises the Electrical and Mechanical Maintenance employees and provides support to the operation of our Acetylene generation and Carbide handling processes. Responsible for the maintenance of plant equipment and systems such as material handling, crushing, screening, pneumatic, hydraulic, and pumping systems.

The plant typically operates 24hr/day, 7 days/week. The work schedule for this position is primarily M-F day shift. However, the successful candidate may be called in to work any shift, weekends, and holidays if necessary.


Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Supervises maintenance workers performing both electrical and mechanical work necessary to maintain, repair, or replace machinery and equipment. 
  • Assists workers in troubleshooting equipment failures.
  • Plans, directs and coordinates plant maintenance activities, including preventative maintenance, to ensure the continuous production of acetylene and hydrate.
  • Coordinates scheduled equipment maintenance with the Production. Supervisor/Manager to avoid unnecessary downtime and disruptions.
  • Plans and coordinates the maintenance work schedule during plant shutdowns.
  • Provides information for the preparation of the annual maintenance budget.
  • Controls and monitors monthly department costs.
  • Writes and reviews department procedures (SOPs).
  • Keeps current regarding engineering controls, government standards and other regulation and recommends changes to improve efficiencies.
  • Maintains the Maintenance Department tools and work areas.
  • Maintains calibration and other equipment maintenance logs and records.
  • Enforces our Quality Management System procedures and ensures that record keeping is properly maintained
  • Maintains schedules and payroll records for employees assigned and enters the data into a system ensuring accurate hours worked.
  • Follows all safety requirements; strives to maintain a safe work environment
  • Responds to grievances and other employee problems in a fair and consistent manner.


Requirements:

  • The position requires a two-year degree in a related field with 5 years of related manufacturing maintenance supervision (combination of mechanical and electrical) experience or the equivalent combination of experience and education. Demonstrated knowledge of Electrical Maintenance is required.
  • Working knowledge of PLC programming required, Allen Bradley preferred.
  • Must have communication, organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities that will assist in successfully scheduling and assigning multiple tasks for completion under strict time constraints
  • Ability to provide direction, develop teams, inspire others, and encourage collaboration with internal and external partners


Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving machinery. The successful candidate will be exposed to weather and environmental conditions inherent to the manufacturing process. Position requires the ability to travel throughout the plant walking up and down stairways, inclines, and ladders as well as working at elevated levels and in confined spaces. Standard PPE use includes hard hat, safety glasses, safety shoes, hearing protection and the occasional use of a respirator.
