Ultium Cells is a joint venture lithium-Ion automotive battery cell manufacturing plant between LG Energy Solutions and General Motors. This new construction high-technology plant will have the latest battery cell manufacturing technology. The investment in this new business venture represents a commitment of more than $2.3 Billion. It will be among the largest battery cell manufacturing plants in the world. Ultium Cells will produce battery cells for General Motors North American electric vehicle applications.

Position Description:

The Logistics Specialist facilitates and expedites the movement of products to and from various points of the Ultium Cells supply chain. The specialist works with Freight Forwarders, Distribution Operations, Carriers, Custom Brokers, Customs Compliance, Transportation Management, and Internal teams. The candidate should be comfortable initiating, developing, and implementing new processes, process improvements, cost savings, performance metrics, exception management reporting, etc. Logistics Specialists complete various analytic projects as related to the Global Supply Chain. While roles and responsibilities within the transportation function vary, the specialist generally works with carriers to prioritize, manage, and schedule deliveries work with origin offices to approve shipment exceptions. Additionally, the specialist role develops, generates, analyzes, and distributes reports with recommendations incorporated. The specialist contributes to ensuring the on-time delivery to the final destination and compliance with all shipping requirements.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Identify core issues and address them by providing advanced analytical / business / technical solutions
  • Monitor shipments, change service level if required to meet delivery requirements while tracking, tracing, and rating shipments
  • Manage carrier's relationship, claims and ensure settlements are done in a timely manner
  • Ability to work with freight payment & reconciliation
  • Create technical solutions to be managed by individuals with operational skill sets
  • Perform transportation/logistics analysis, reviewing carrier performance
  • Perform cost/benefit analysis and present multiple alternative scenarios
  • Identify improvement/savings opportunities within functioning processes
  • Provide expert knowledge in support of transportation management
  • Automate existing processes to ensure accuracy and reduce work effort
  • Track, trace, rate, and route shipments
  • Identify transportation violations and compile data for the Compliance Group for issuance of chargebacks
  • Key contact in functional area to support all operations requirements
  • Develop and prepare monthly/quarterly carrier performance reports
  • Identify methods and areas to improve service, reduce freight costs, and streamline processes
  • Adhere to all safety requirements

Qualifications and Competencies:

  • Bachelor’s Degree; MBA a plus with 5 years of experience as Logistics Specialist
  • Understanding of optimization techniques, routing tools, and performance metrics
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, root cause analysis, decision making, and follow-up skills
  • Able to discern needs from requests and provide functional deliveries
  • Advanced competency in Excel, Access, and other desktop software
  • Able to acquire new application skills and/or process, researching independently
  • Must be able to continuously utilize keyboard 8+ hours per day
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to clearly communicate and provide guidance to business partners that have English as a second language
  • Demonstrated planning and project management skills
  • Proven ability to organize multiple project schedules and meet shifting priorities
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, demanding environment
  • Ability to work effectively in a team or project environment
  • Flexible and open to change
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Must be able to work over 40 hours per week as the business volume demands
  • Ability to attend and contribute effectively to meetings
  • Ability to train others on details and effectively cross train in other logistics roles
  • Ability to respond same day to requests submitted by business partners
  • Ability to provide internal teams with relevant forecast information monthly, quarterly, and yearly
  • Additional job duties as assigned
  • Bilingual Korean/English preferred
