Position Overview

Based in our Houston Office, the Logistics Specialist II (Estimating) executes the strategies and SOP (Standard Operating Procedures) established by the logistics team to support all aspects of the estimate from kickoff to turn over. This involves close collaboration with Internal Stakeholders as well as 3PL (Third Party Logistics and Trucking companies) Transportation Coordinators. Core objectives include but not limited to functional understanding and interpretation of RFP documents, application of company historical rate and logistics information, as well as foster the development and growth of the logistics estimating through improved work processes to meet the needs of Projects and Districts.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare estimates for subcontracted and self-perform transportation work for all modes of Transportation
  • Interface with other discipline estimators to ensure scope alignment.
  • Input quantities into estimating tool software, apply unit pricing based on actual historical costs using Kiewit database. In the absence of historical costs, able to prepare a theoretical estimate.
  • Research historical projects to determine past-costs applicable to the work being performed.
  • Select shipment routes, based on nature of goods shipped, transit times, or security needs
  • Perform top-down estimates (high-level ROMs) and bottoms up estimates by analyzing every aspect of every operation in detail.
  • Prepare subcontractor bid packages – includes compiling quantities and writing detailed scope. Answer technical questions from bidders and work with Projects and Districts to compile quote comparison sheet.
  • Prepare and present estimate review packet.
  • Prepare transportation schedule based on activity, scope, sequence, duration, and resources loading such as manhours and quantity.
  • Working knowledge of Kiewit standard account codes, apply correct account codes to estimate work.
  • Continuous improvement such as self-paced training and estimate debrief sessions.
  • Ensure documentation is accurately processed, distributed, and released to carrier, forwarders, customers, and agents in a timely manner. Account for proper transit times and customs clearance documentation deliverables instructions are communicated.
  • Other duties may be assigned.


Qualifications

  • A four-year college or university degree in related materials transportation, logistics or expediting field; or an associate degree plus two years of experience in a related materials transportation, logistics or expediting management field; or a high school diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • 8 years' experience estimating logistics for Capital Projects
  • At least 5 years of experience in a related materials transportation, logistics or expediting position is preferred.
  • SAP Knowledge is a plus.
  • Be detail oriented.
  • Flexible and highly motivated.
  • Have a strong work ethic and professional demeanor.
  • Effective time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks efficiently and accurately.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be team player but able to work independently, to meet intense deadlines, goals and objectives.
