We are seeking a Library Specialist who will report to the Resource Sharing Librarian and will be responsible for borrowing materials on behalf of JHU patrons in efficient, cost effective, and user-friendly manner through the use of resource sharing tools and best practices. This position also assists with the day-to-day operations of BorrowDirect and circulation workflows.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Actively research and share trends and best practices in existing and emerging areas such as Controlled Digital Lending (IPLC), the Johns Hopkins Resource Sharing Interest Group (RSIG) and engages in other professional development opportunities.
Participates in library and resource sharing trends for Ivy Plus Library Confederation.
Assists with training student work study assistants and assists with daily direction and problem solving.
Reports system problems with Alma, llliad, and Reshare to the Resource Sharing Librarian and through Jira.
Manage annual and operational statistical reporting for interlibrary loan, circulation, and BorrowDirect for library dashboards, annual reporting, and projects as needed.
Troubleshoots access-related problems for resource sharing and circulation.
Communicates with patrons to resolve any service disruptions with campus deliveries and provide updated information for pickup services.
Coordinate with other circulation room staff to complete daily circulation priorities for the Book Pickup Service and other related workflows as needed.
Communicates with other libraries to assist with resolving problems with borrowing requests and materials.
Communicates with JHU faculty, staff, and students to resolve problems concerning their requested materials including items shipped but not received, renewals, and recalls.
Coordinate fulfillment of complex requests with other libraries and Johns Hopkins librarians.
Monitor llliad queues and routing to ensure that patron requests are met in a timely manner.
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or graduation equivalent.
Three years related experience.
Additional education may substitute for experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree.
Experience working with ILLiad, OCLC, Alma, and a combination of other bibliographic or interlibrary lending management tools.
Experience with circulation and/or interlibrary loan.

Education and Experience Equivalency
Please refer to the job description above to see which forms of equivalency are permitted for this position. If permitted, equivalencies will follow these guidelines: JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
