We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Financial Services Lobbyist to represent America’s Credit Unions before Congress. This includes speaking on behalf of credit unions to members of Congress and their staff, and building relationships with members of Congress, their staff, committee staff and Congressional leadership. The ideal candidate will be responsible for gathering timely and relevant information about legislative activity and educating staff about credit unions. This role requires a dynamic individual who can effectively represent our organization’s interests and work collaboratively with policymakers, stakeholders, and the community.


Responsibilities:


Represent Credit Unions on Capitol Hill

  • Engage in direct legislative advocacy with Members of Congress, key leadership offices, Congressional Committees, and legislative staff on Capitol Hill on all issues of concern to credit unions, in coordination with the department leadership.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with legislative aides on both sides of Capitol Hill. Use extensive member and staff network to convey concerns on issues affecting credit unions.
  • Monitor federal legislation, Congressional activities, the legislative initiatives of competing organizations, and other activities that have an impact upon credit unions and the financial institutions system.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with other industry representatives.
  • Attend hearings, mark-ups, and conference committees to report on and evaluate events and to be available to Members of Congress and staff as a resource.


Provide Policy Analysis

  • Analyze legislative issues and their potential impact on credit unions. Anticipate their course through Congress and advise the Head of Legislative Advocacy and SVP of Advocacy.
  • Advise Advocacy leadership on the strategic and tactical aspects of legislative issues and outline possible courses of action to pursue.
  • Identify emerging legislative developments and obtain politically important intelligence from Congressional and industry sources.
  • Maintain expertise on all legislative issues, and develop subject matter expertise on one or more critical issues to credit unions.
  • Develop and prepare witness statements, position papers, research reports, and correspondence with Congress, the Administration, and members for management approval


Contribute to the Advocacy Division

  • Assist with GAC, Congressional Caucus, and any other advocacy-related conference including obtaining speakers, preparing issue papers and scripts, and assisting members in their lobbying efforts.
  • Support other departments in the broader Advocacy Team and across America’s Credit Unions, as needed.
  • Collaborate with other America’s Credit Unions staff: look for opportunities to provide support within and outside of the Advocacy Team.
  • Liaison to member committees, as assigned.


Engage in Political Advocacy

  • In coordination with the Head of Legislative Advocacy, work with the Head of Political Advocacy & team to influence America’s Credit Unions’ political strategy.
  • Attend fundraisers on Capitol Hill, as assigned.
  • Interact with key lawmakers and staff, underscoring our political commitments.


Provide Member Services

  • Serve as staff liaison to America’s Credit Unions’ committees and subcommittees, as assigned.
  • Support member and league meetings on Capitol Hill.
  • Represent America’s Credit Unions at Congressional meetings, league and credit union functions, including oral presentations at conferences
  • Respond to inquiries from members regarding the status and impact of various legislative initiatives.


Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field; or equivalent work experience.
  • 6+ years of experience working in legislative affairs, lobbying, political intelligence, financial services, or in positions that have similar focus either on Capitol Hill or with other trade associations or entities working in the financial services realm.
  • Congressional leadership office experience and contacts, a plus
  • A history of outstanding work performance in relevant areas, including recognition for quality of work product and work effort.
  • Demonstrated expertise in subject matter critical to the success of credit union advocacy.
