Description
We are currently looking for an eager, self-motivated Lab Assistant 2 to work full-time in the lab of Dr. Philip Scumpia on-site at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). The Scumpia lab focuses on mechanisms of innate and adaptive immune responses in skin during wound healing, Staph aureus infections, Group A Streptococcus (so called “flesh-eating” bacteria), and melanoma. In addition to understanding mechanisms of skin disease, the Scumpia lab also develops new diagnostics to diagnose skin cancer and new biomaterials to induce skin regeneration, or to create better vaccine platforms for tumors and infectious diseases. The Lab Assistant 2 will work closely with senior lab members on projects involving gene regulation and inflammatory/immune responses.

The Lab Assistant 2 will work closely with senior lab members on projects involving gene regulation and inflammatory/immune responses.
Principal Responsibilities
- Under the supervision of one or more senior lab members, support projects and experiments focused on gene regulation and inflammatory/immune responses.
- Utilize a variety of molecular biology techniques to perform necessary experiment-related tasks.
- Alongside other lab members, share the administrative responsibility of ordering supplies and maintaining oversight of regulatory issues for lab safety, radiation use, and mouse protocols. Keep accurate records of data and analyze data as required.
- Participate regularly in weekly lab team meetings.
- Assist in genotyping, mouse colony maintenance, and assist in performing experimental models in mice, tissue harvesting, and downstream molecular analysis
