K-12 Engagement Specialist

Job Description

The Museum seeks an accomplished educator to develop and lead K-12 engagement with Central New York schools for the special exhibition “Homeward to the Prairie I Come: Gordon Parks Photographs from the Beach Museum of Art”. On view from August through December 2024, the exhibition explores the work of Parks, a groundbreaking photographer, filmmaker, composer, and writer. The K-12 Engagement Specialist will help develop engagement with students and teachers in local school districts by identifying contacts in the community and forging relationships with key partners in advance of the exhibition’s opening. The Engagement Specialist will also develop content for the exhibition’s Family Guide and will design and lead K-12 tours and classroom visits that will be given when the exhibition is on view.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education, Art History, Photography, Film, or related field.
  • Two (2) plus years of experience teaching K-12 learners.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills .

Job Specific Qualifications

  • Experience in museum education preferred.
  • Background in community engagement preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop tours and lesson plans to be implemented at the museum and/or in local classrooms in partnership with Central New York teachers.
  • Develop exhibition Family Guide, including researching models at peer institutions, creating content, and working with designer to design Guide.
  • Lead K-12 visits to the museum in Fall 2024.
  • Identify K-12 partners from local school districts.
  • Other duties as assigned
