The Global Health Training, Advisory and Support Contract (GHTASC) delivers effective global health programming to advance the mission of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), Bureau for Global Health (GH) through institutional support and workforce development services from junior, mid-level, senior and expert advisory, and administrative professionals.

The Bureau for Global Health (GH) provides essential technical leadership and support on global health issues to Agency leadership, USAID Missions, other USAID Bureaus and Independent Offices (B/IOs), and others in the global health community. The Office of the Assistant Administrator, commonly referred to as the GH “Front Office,” provides oversight for all Global Health programs, support to the field, research, legislative relations, and external affairs.   • Position Summary:

The Junior Data Analyst will provide technical support in conducting advanced analytics to better inform health programming through complex relationships with and between global health program and performance data and country-specific or survey data. The Junior Data Analyst will work closely with technical program experts at USAID Headquarters and Missions in the development and execution of data analyses and visualizations.

The Junior Data Analyst will be an essential member of the GH Front Office and reports on a day-to-day basis to the Front Office’s Senior Data Advisor.

Employment Type: Full Time

Full salary range for this position is $65,260 to $94,640 per year, with the starting salary determined based on candidate’s knowledge, skills, experience, as well as budget availability.

  • Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Support with data analysis and visualization of global health program monitoring and evaluation (M&E) data for all GH priority health areas, as well as other global health data from public sources, to inform strategic discussions about the direction of global health programming
  • Participate in discovery processes with GH leadership team and stakeholders to identify requirements and expected outcomes for new or existing initiatives, including how to measure success
  • Work with the Senior Data Advisor and Senior Data Scientist, as well as with data experts from across GH, to build, maintain and/or enhance systems and tools that generate sophisticated data visualizations and communicate clear strategic messages for the GH Front Office
  • Communicate results of analyses through data visualizations that adhere to visualization standards and best practices, using tools best fitting to the purpose (such as R, Tableau, Excel, and Adobe Illustrator)
  • Support extraction, transformation and loading of data from various data sources
  • Building analytical tools to utilize the data pipeline, providing actionable insights
  • Contribute to the publication of original research articles
  • Support project management with GH Bureau implementing partners
  • Work at least 3 days per week in-person at Washington, DC office
  • Travel internationally and domestically up to 2 trips a year
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Qualification Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree with 1 year of relevant experience, bachelor’s degree with 3 years of relevant experience, Associate’s degree and 5 years of relevant experience, or High School graduate and 7 years of relevant experience
  • US Citizenship or US Permanent Residency with the ability to obtain and maintain a Facility Access clearance is required. For Permanent Residents, this means having resided in the US for at least 3 of the past 5 years

Other Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in computer science, information systems, data science, analytics, statistics, economics, public health, biostatistics, epidemiology, social science, mathematics, or relevant field preferred
  • Experience in data management and visualization, preferably in Global/Public Health, with experience with at least one data visualization software (e.g., Tableau, Power BI)
  • Working knowledge and experience using one of statistical computer languages (R, Python, SQL, Stata, etc.) to manipulate data and draw insights from large data sets
  • Experience using web services such as S3 and ETL skills are plus
  • Demonstrated experience in data analysis, visualization, and presentation of data
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • A self-starter mentality comfortable working both independently and collaboratively
  • Demonstrated experience working with large data sets, survey dataset experience is a plus
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 2 trips a year
  • Ability to work at least 3 days per week in-person at Washington, DC office
