Overview
CFR’s Blavatnik and Robina Franklin Williams internships give selected interns the opportunity to receive training in the area of foreign policy; as well as skills training in areas such as writing, research, and program planning.
The intern will work with the Europe studies team and will build their academic and policy-writing experience, as well as their research, editing and writing skills. The intern will gain a deeper understanding of the state of European politics and security.
CFR internships are paid, require a 14 - 18 hour commitment, and are filled on a rolling basis.
CFR’s fall internship program gives interns the opportunity to choose whether to work in our office in a hybrid capacity (half in the office, and half remote), or on an offsite fully remote basis.
The major responsibilities of this position will include (but are not limited to):
$17.50 per hour

The major responsibilities of this position will include (but are not limited to):
- Knowledge of European affairs, transatlantic relations, and U.S. foreign policy
- Conducting research as requested by the research associate and/or fellow on a variety of topics including the European Union, European security, the war in Ukraine, and European China Policy
- Preparing research memos and assisting in the drafting and editing of written work
- Tracking developing news stories in Europe, predominately related to European security with a focus on Germany, France, and Russia
- Assisting with logistical support for meetings under the direct supervision of their supervisor
- Undergraduate or graduate student majoring in political science, International Relations, European Studies, Security Studies, or a related field
- All applicants should have completed the equivalent of four semesters of college coursework (not including AP classes in high school) by the time they begin an internship
- Knowledge of European Affairs, transatlantic relations, and U.S Foreign Policy
- Prior internship experience, especially in nonprofit or think tank work, a plus
- Demonstrated interest in European politics and security
- Excellent research, writing, editing, and proofreading skills
- Proficiency in any EU language and/or German a plus
$17.50 per hour
