We are looking for an International Logistics Specialist to join our team! International Logistics Specialists are the middlemen that bring shippers and carriers together to move truckload, drayage, ocean freight, air freight, intermodal, and LTL volumes of dry, refrigerated, and flatbed cargo. They provide a knowledge base for all parties in the exchange of goods and require a great deal of discretion and independent thought. Because of the nature of the job, International Logistics Specialists are frequently required to make themselves available outside of normal work hours. International Logistics Specialists will uphold the set processes, procedures, and protocols and follow the company principles of Customer, Company, and Office.

You Will

  • Contact new customers
  • Be responsible for customer acquisitions
  • Develop and increase profitable volume with existing and newly acquired shippers
  • Build relationships with developing accounts
  • Use strong relationships to understand customer’s business, better qualifying them to identify and solve the customer’s problems
  • Solicit new carrier prospects to facilitate growth for the business and increased efficiencies
  • Increase capacity for specific projects and lanes in addition to the overall capacity for the office and company
  • Handle the daily management and coordination in the office, including: building loads, setting up carriers, updating/check calls, scheduling pick-up and delivery appointments, updating customer systems, updating customers with critical information, etc.
  • Possess working knowledge of federal regulations that encompass the import/export industry so as not to jeopardize customers, vendors, or ALC by breaking any laws that govern this industry
  • Daily communication with customers, vendors, carriers and government agencies via phone, fax, e-mail, or personal interaction.
  • Create, route, bill and handle all paperwork required for shipments using various computer systems including CargoWise and ALX.
  • Track/update shipments and communicate this information to customers, other offices, or anyone needing to know.
  • Provide up-to-date rate quotes for customers.
  • Gain up-to-date personal knowledge of market freight rates in order to determine a “fair” price to pay trucks and charge shippers
  • Resolve problems for individual shipments for customers and or vendors.
  • Select vendors and routing for specific moves that provide the expected level or service while meeting the above income/cost/revenue criteria
  • Have specific industry knowledge regarding: product compatibility, shipping requirements, and temperature requirements
  • Assist with calls regarding A/P and A/R as instructed.
  • Be available for after office hours contact throughout the night and/or weekends. In order to be of assistance to after hour callers, this role must possess specific knowledge acquired through experience. Contact management if faced with issues outside of standard operating procedures.

Skills And Experience

  • College degree highly desired or equivalent experience
  • Self-motivated, enthusiastic team player who excels in a fast-paced environment
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in International Logistics/ Ocean Freight Forwarding/customer service
  • Excellent and effective communication skills
  • Strong customer service orientation and excellent work ethic
  • Ability to quickly process information and make decisions
  • Effective negotiation and problem-solving skills, and ability to handle conflict
  • Excellent time-management skills with the ability to multitask
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment
