Position Summary

Instructor, Program Engagement, working as part of the YMCA Experience team, will deliver world-class customer service and relationship building skills to create a welcoming environment at the YMCA. The individual will provide a high level of interaction with all participants in center programs and deliver a high level of quality within all programs administered. The incumbent will also exhibit the core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility in all aspects of their work with the YMCA.

Essential Functions

  • Serve as an instructor of gymnastics classes.
  • Develops and implement lesson plans that are appropriate for age groups for entirety of the sessions.
  • Maintain safety in studio at all times while teaching high quality lessons, ensuring that students have the best possible opportunity to acquire the skills for their particular level.
  • Report all accidents and incidents to your supervisor immediately using proper forms.
  • Instructors are expected to arrive 10-15 minutes prior to class and stay 10-15 minutes after to arrange equipment, clean up, do appropriate record keeping, read notices and visit with participants and parents.
  • Be dressed in appropriate attire and wear nametag at all times.
  • Attend and remain current on all mandatory trainings and staff meetings.
  • Complete progress reports at end of session to show where participants skills are.
  • Communicate with all participants/parents if class is being cancelled and/or rescheduled and with regard to practice and meet times.
  • Communicate participant/parent concerns to your supervisor.

  • Frequently required to sit, reach and must be able to move around the work environment  
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds 
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and focus  
  • Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be a minimum of 16 years of age.
  • Must hold current certification in CPR and First Aid.
  • Must have an interest in, respect for and ability to work with children.
  • Must have a good working knowledge of child development and program planning.
  • Must have skills in children’s games, sports, educational activities, team building, and moral building for the squad.
  • Must possess good human relation skills for working with children, parents, community members and other staff.
