Human Resources Specialist

Job Description

Messina is assisting our client, a consumer and institutional goods contract manufacturer in Chicago (near Midway Airport), with their search for a Contract-to-Hire Human Resources Specialist.

The Human Resources Specialist effectively manages the day-to-day human resources operations to optimize productivity, profitability, and employee satisfaction.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assist with the recruitment process, including sourcing candidates, screening resumes, scheduling interviews, and conducting background checks.
• Onboard new hires, ensuring necessary paperwork is completed and new employees understand company policies and benefits.
• Process payroll changes, leaves of absence, and terminations.
• Assist with employee relations matters, including providing guidance on company policies and procedures, and investigating and resolving employee concerns.
• Perform benefits administration to include group health and welfare and voluntary plans.
• Manage annual open enrollment in collaboration with the corporate office.
• Respond to unemployment and disability claims.
• Prepare employee census information for insurance, 401(k), and other reports.
• Execute all employee termination procedures including advising employees on their rights and any benefits they are entitled to and processing any terminations.
• Maintain knowledge of legal requirements & government reporting regulations affecting HR function.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records under company policy and federal regulations.
• Ensure health and safety regulations are followed.
• Contribute to efforts for continuous improvement and reduction of costs/waste.
  
  

Requirements:

• 2 -5 years relevant experience in HR experience, ideally in a manufacturing setting.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources or related field preferred.
• Knowledge of the principles and practices of HR management.
• Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills with excellent attention to detail.
• Proficient in Microsoft Suite.
• Experience using HR software and HRIS databases.
