Summary/Objective:


The Human Resources Specialist will perform administrative tasks and services to support the effective and efficient operation of the organization’s human resources department.



Responsibilities:


  • Provides administrative support to internal clients in the areas of employee pre-employment, onboarding, status change, and terminations.
  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date human resources files, records, and documentation while maintaining the integrity and confidentiality of human resource files and records.
  • Writes, revises, edits, and proofreads company policies & procedures and related documents as needed.
  • Answers frequently asked questions from applicants and employees relative to standard policies, benefits, hiring processes, etc.; refers more complex questions to appropriate senior-level HR staff or management.
  • Conducts or assists with new hire orientations.
  • Facilitates the onboarding process and required paperwork for new hires such as offer letters, reference checks, I-9 verifications, background checks, DOT pre-employment drug testing, etc.
  • Conducts staff training(s) for all HRIS applications and human resources initiatives.
  • Acts as a liaison between the organization and external benefits providers and vendors, which may include health, disability, and retirement plan providers.
  • Ensures proper benefit plan administration including medical, dental, vision, 401(k), FMLA, etc.
  • Responsible for 401(k) administration to include adding and changing employee information, notifying newly eligible employees during open enrollment, loan deductions/deferrals, the distribution process, and year-end compliance.
  • Maintains the HRIS records and reporting for various requirements such as Workers Compensation, 401(k) contributions, Federal/State Reporting (i.e., EEO, OSHA, etc.)
  • Understands and adheres to all applicable Federal and State laws.
  • Performs periodic audits of HR files and records to ensure that all required documents are collected and filed appropriately.
  • Assists with planning and execution of special events such as benefits open enrollment, organization-wide meetings, employee recognition events, etc..
  • Assists in the execution of various HR projects/initiatives. Ex: Bigge Wellness Program, Health Fairs, SLCA Communications Luncheons.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Educational Requirements / Qualifications:


  • Associate degree in human resources or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of business administration experience is required, preferably in HR.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Familiarity with HR software and databases (preferably BambooHR, ADP Workforce Now, Microsoft D365, HSI, BeneTrac, etc.).
  • Must have good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • High level of confidentiality and integrity.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving abilities.
